Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Smells dark and sweet, strong chocolate and dark malt scent. Taste is mellow and smooth, some chocolate malt flavor with a slightly watery feel to it. Not bad, but I’ve had better porters.

12oz bottle. Served at cellar temperature. Pours deep black. Held to a light scorched brown edges are revealed. Creamy brown head settles to a slippery, lacey top. The aroma is absolutely delicious and the best part of the beer. It smells like dark chocolate fudge or truffles. The flavor is much more subdued than the aroma. It tastes a lot like drinking a dry stout like Guinness or Murphys and the mouth feel is similar to a dry stout, maybe a little fuller. There is a complex finish which leaves the mouth feeling parched and chalky, like if you licked a dry porous rock. The finish is actually very enjoyable and is complimented with a little residual dull bitterness and sweet malt that stays. I was very impressed with this beer overall. It is extremely smooth and easy drinking, has an amazing aroma, and a wonderful dry, sweet and mellow finish which sticks indefinitely. All of these qualities make me wish I had one or two more bottles so I could session this beer.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a chocolate brown color with a 2-finger head. Moderate head retention and very nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malts with some subtle chocolate notes. Slightly bitter and slightly metallic roasted malt notes in the taste. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Opaque, dark chocolate brown with medium beige head. Mild cocoa aroma, some cola, some latte, and some carob. Fizzy, prickly mouthfeel. Straightforward flavors are simple but clean with a slightly chalky finish.

Hazy brown. Some chocolate and coffee aroma with a little bit of caramel. The flavour mixes cheap coffee, diacteyl, and vague nuts. The body is light and the mouthfeel is creamy, but that butter has got to go.

Very dark black/brown. Great mixture of roasted malts and dark chocolate. A little on the watery side. I believe this one is currently underrated at 3.05.

Very easy porter, similar to Black Butte. Larger body, tones of coffee and chocolate, smooth but not overly sweet.
