Commercial Description:
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Great stout that’s full bodied and has that chalky dark dry earthy roast complex of the likes of Anchor and Smutty Robust. Nice one for sure, and the flavors are all traditional. They don’t really do anything new with the style, but it’s very inviting. Good beer.

Bottle. Pours a black body with a yellow tan head. Ash y chocolate aroma with some mineral and light chalky vanilla hints. A moderate roast y body with a thin body and a subtle dry ash and light malt y chocolate tones. Thin and simple but a decent session porter.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black color. Pours with a thick tan colored head that doesn’t stick around long. Smells nutty and smokey with some roasted smells and a little bit of chocolate in the background. Taste followed the smell with the roasted, nutty flavor. Lots of malt and there’s definitely a smokey flavor going on here. Very drinkable. Good overall beer.

This is way a porter should be in my opinion. Big and robust, no time for messing around. Something serious in this beer. Dark brownish black colour with a full frothy head. Creamy and nutty, rich roasted malts on the nose with some toasted oats as well. Taste has that little hotness from the alcohol. but its so balanced and so pleasent. Thanks Brandon for the good beer!

Bottled, pours deep black with red hue and medium brown head, slight sweet malt aroma with roasted character, ver light sweet malt on palate with lighter roast then expected, fairly flat overall

Dark brown color with a tan head. Nitro at Blue Dog. Some aroma of malts, chocolate. Not much on the nose. Not much on the tastebuds either. Soem roasted malt and chocolate. Disappointing.

Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Pours near black with smallish beige head. I’m wavering on this one. Every other sip is either decent or not so good... hm. Malty nose, showing some dark fruit. Mild roast... more chocolate than coffee. Definitely picking up more fruit than is typical for the style... and not just dark fruits (raisins, plums, etc.). Picked up some distracting metallic/grainy notes at first, but these have died down as the carbonation has done the same. Very light-bodied, and a bit thin on the palate and the finish. Sessionable. Pretty decent, but I’d prefer something roasty and with a bit more punch.

12 oz bottle - pours almost black with a thin head. Aroma is coffee, licorice and earth... but fairly week overall. Taste is chocolate, coffee, malt and some dark fruit - but like the aroma there isn’t much punch to this one - and fairly thin mouthfeel to boot. Certainly not bad - but not one to write home about.
