Commercial Description:
When Charlie Papazian founded The Great American Beer Festival in 1982, Boulder Beer was happy to brew a special high gravity ale to celebrate the inaugural event. For the silver anniversary of what has become one the world's premier beer showcases, we're honored to do it again, and this time brew one of Charlie's recent favorites that we're calling 25th Year Beer. With a rich golden hue, this brew has plenty of British Pale Malt for a high original gravity; this ale is then assertively hopped in the kettle for a smooth balanced flavor, with more than a dash of Saaz hops dry-hopped in the fermenter lending it a unique floral aroma. One of the original 22 breweries at the first GABF, we're been back every year, and are thrilled to raise a glass in celebration of the flavor and diversity of American Craft Beer. Cheers!

Mostly clear amber body with a small white head. The nose is grainy malt, light citrus and caramel. The flavor is bread, grapefruit, tangerine, caramel and cotton candy. Medium body is a bit thin with light carbonation.

Dark amber color with white head. Nose is dough and citrus. Flavor has a nice hop front that is followed by a nice malt backig with a nice little pepper bite. Had some oxidation due to the age, but was not too bad.

Lightly hazed amber colored liquid. Small, but relatively stable light beige head. Some sour dough malt, apple skin and earthy, somewhat citric hops. The light sour scent scares me a bit, but I shall continue. Flowery flavors with orange blossoms, light honey and crystal malt. Has a real English character, but seems to lack grace. Middle is a jumbled mess, with apricot, flowers, strawberries, grass and orange zest to name a few things. There are parts I really like, but enough parts that don’t fit in well at all. Finish as both citric and a bit metallic. Feel seems odd to me as well, with quite a bit of zip and the metallic finish really makes it seem thin. Decent long linger with some buttery malt, something you might expect in the this type of brew. Lat pour of the bottle suddenly reviled a mass of fish food and colloidal junk. Interesting to watch in the glass, but not that appealing. Still tasted the same.

16-Mar-08 (12-oz bottle: Shared by SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!) Funny that the tribute beer for the 25th GABF is an English style beer. This one foamed a bit when opened, but nothing serious. Pouring the beer, it’s amber in color and fairly cloudy, with some floaties of various sizes. No issues with foaming when poured into the glass, instead less than an inch of off-white head settles slowly to a thin layer. The nose is rather earthy that suggest some aging. Somewhat fruity and generic pale malt aromas, but not much hops at all. Malty flavors are only mildly sweet, but as earthy as the aroma. Hops are lightly bitter at most, with some mild hop flavor and lightly tart citrus hints. Medium-bodied and gently carbonated, soft and easy on the palate. Overall, nothing showy here, but a nice beer that has developed nice character with the aging.

Bottle. Pours a thick hazy amber color with a thick white head. Mild hop and floral aroma matches a mild hop and citrus/ floral taste. Quality floaties. Not quite as bitter as expected.
