| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 13, 2007 A nice deep velvet black with a creamy tan head. The smell is caramelized malt and floral. The Taste chocolate cream and hops. The only problem I had was the hops was to powerful and made the beer unbalanced. It was okay not my favorite. trum22 (13), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2007 This is a really good porter. Colour is almost black with a beautiful cream colored head that laces the glass. Smell is of hops and malt with some fruit. Palate is thick and pleasing - about the consistency of chocolate milk - but has a surprisingly dry finish. Tastes: chocolate, cream, hops. Leaves behind some acidity. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Updated: Feb 5, 2008This beer has a large quickly diminishing head with light lacing. It has a surprisingly light roasted malt fragrance for dark porter. Funniest thing, the instant I took my first gulp the memory of the smell of changing oil in my truck came to mind. Im not being sarcastic, this is the most burnt flavor I have experienced. I suggest every one try this beer.........once. Cletus (5060), Connecticut, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 2/5 | 18/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Bottle courtesy of tjthresh. Pours deep brown with a red hue and a well maintained head. Smells of roasted malt, touches of pepper, some tea like qualities. Taste is mildly bitter with some dark fruit, some chocolate hints and a touch of roastiness. Palate is a little thin and watery on this one. Finish is mildly bitter with some chocolate hints. Overall an excellent example of the style, but too much attention was paid to head retention and not enough to malt character. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2007 12 oz bottle thanks to Padrefan98. Roasty and some chocolate off this dark black pour with smallish tan head. Flavors were more roastiness with classic porter dust. Not too bad. Ughsmash (4096), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2007 Bottled, BB 1/26/08. Poured clear, deep, raspberry brown with a tall, creamy cap of tan head.. some sticky lacing remained as it descended. The aroma was soft and almost detergenty at first, but opened up to dry cocoa, almost burnt darker chocolates, and some dusty hoppage as it warmed up. The flavor was really nice.. deeply-roasted cocoa powder and dark chocolates at the core with ample citrus and a little pine hoppage accenting the middle.. and leaving a spicy pine impression along with toasty cocoa at the finish.. well-balanced and engaging. Medium-bodied.. enjoyed the interplay of heavy hoppage with the tasty roasted malts. Very good stuff!
