Head was thick, fluffy, and light tan in color. It lasted long into the night and left some decent lacing. Aroma was of roasty malt and molasses accompanied by a decent amount of flowery hop. Dry on the tongue with plenty of roasty malt supported by ample flowery hop. There is also a touch of unsalted nuts. A roasty version of their pale ale. Very good. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 5, 2007 Bottle; in a pint glass. Pours a deep brown with a large, frothy, light-brown head. Aroma is a heavy burnt malt and pumpernickel. Palate is oily and soft with a moderate astringent finish. I felt the flavor was strangely leaning towards the bitter side of things despite its malty aroma. Finishes pretty dry. This is a local favorite in Kansas City, but not my favorite porter. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2007 Bottle (thanks to Indra) poured a dark brown color with a nice light brown head. Aroma was rich with chocolate, roast, hops, oats, toffee and caramel. The flavor had a big charge of chocolate that pushed the bitterness up. More of the roasted malt come through as it warms along with a dry bite from all the dark malts and the hops. All in all a solid Porter. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
