This is my first excursion into lesser known beers, and my first porter. This was recommended by the store. Good. It’s so complex to my virgin tongue. There is a taste of coffee, maybe even a little cola. There are bits of flavors I’ve tasted before, but I can’t touch on exactly where or what they are. There is a bit of sweetness to it, and a kind of fruity aftertaste. But not as good as it could be. There are some textural issues, but those things happen. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA

Choclolate, coffee, roasted malts aroma. Roasted coffee, carmel, toffee, molasses, some subtle dark fruits, and alcohol as it warmed in the taste. Full mouthfeel and smooth all the way down. Tasty. bb (2919), Martinez, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 25, 2005 Very black color, faint red comming through, medium sized creamy chocolate colored head. Light cereal grain aroma, a bit of dark toasty flavors as well. A great malt bitterness, balanced by creamy cake like flavors. Great simple porter. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA

The color is a very deep, dark garnet with a generous, long lasting smooth head that leaves ample lacing...very pretty. The aroma is full of roasted malt with hints of woodsy undergrowth after a light rain. The initial taste is of rich, roasted malt, with an earthy middle and a long lasting slightly bitter dark roasted malt finish. kms399 (267), plymouth, Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2005 Picked up a six pack while visiting Arkansas this week. The sealed in box and the best by date of June 19, 2005 in dot printing on the neck of the stubby brown bottle reassured me, that I was drinking a fresh sample. The first sample was consumed in a hotel room using a plastic cup, so the review had to wait till I could transport the beer home, and empty the contents of the bottle in a standard pint glass.
The beer looked hazy ruby brown in the glass with a couple of inches thick foamy sepia colored head crowning a bit out of the glass. Lacing was excellent all around. The aroma was roasty but a little on the mild side. My nose could detect coffee, roast grains, and a little hint of chocolate.
The taste was creamy smooth coffee and bitter burnt toast, and was aided by the soft carbonation coating my tongue. There was a slightly sour aftertaste. The mouthfeel was good, but could have been better if the beer was just a touch thicker. Dry and roasty, this is a good mainstream porter worth a try.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 17, 2005 Did I get a bad batch? It was dark (duh) with a roasted woody aroma. Tasted watery and metalic. I did appreciate the deep roastd flavor, but after having Fullers London Porter this was no good.
