The pour was nice. A thick, three finger tall, sticky, off-white head emerged and produced great lacing above a brown, copper and ruby swirl that sat beneath it. Slightly cloudy. The initial aroma was citrus. More orange juice or tangerine than overly tart lemon or grapefruit. Some nice malt came through as well as some light floral and pine. The flavor was light citrus, malt, pine and some alcohol. Wish the alcohol heat was a little better covered up. The mouthfeel was nothing special.

Tasty and sticky-bitter ale that barely avoids overkill and even manages to be refreshing despite its strength. The 75 cL pours reddish-amber with tall, cream-colored, lacy head. Smells like fruity, woody hops, with grapefruit and fruit punch notes in there. Very juicy, fruity hop flavor that coats the tongue and dries out. I’d love to find some of this on tap.

Caged corked 750 ml. bottle, a short blurb and batch number (D8032), along with glass and storage recommendations, on the back label, sampled in a tulip glass. Having spent some of my undergrad days living in a trailer park, the picture on the front label bought back some scary tornado memories. L: Chill hazy reddish auburn with copper hues in the bottom of the glass, large beige head of fluffed creamy foam, excellent retention, plenty of splotchy lace chunks ring the glass. The carbonation appears to be quite active. An impressive start to DIPA. S: The hops are predominant, framed by a underlining sweet maltiness. Hop aromas of pine oil, evergreen needles, mint leafs, grapefruit peels and leafy herbs. Caramel, bready malts are at the edges. F&T: Moderate bodied with a nice chewy creaminess, softly firm from the carbonation. While the hops rule the taste, there is also a nice balance of flavors, I find Double Wide to be easy to drink and highly enjoyable. Hop tastes of sweet peaches and apricots, mint leafs, earthy, leafy dark green herbs, orange peel and pith, and oily pine needles. Grain bready, caramel maltiness provide at light sweet backing to the hops. The alcohol is barely noticeable, just a low temperature warmth in the back of the palate with the flavor of pepper and pineapple juice. Finishes on a dry note, touches of caramelized malts and a good citric hop spiciness that sticks to tongue, making my mouth water for another sip. This has a dangerously quaffable drinkability. I have to say, I’ve been very impressed with all the beers in the Smokestack series from Boulevard, all are a must try for the beer connoisseur. Double Wide is an excellent DIPA, but I have the feeling it is more twister inducing than it is twister proof.

750 ml. corked bottle into glass. Very fizzy big white head if you pour it aggressively; nice amber, honey brown pour, kind of hazy with soft carbonation. Really good aroma of fresh pine hops with a hint of sweet citrus hops in the background. All hops flavor too that starts off soft and finishes with a nice bitter, piny drag. Smooth and coating on the palate like swallowing pine sap. Overall: great beer; my first experience with Boulevard Brewing Co. (I hadn’t even heard of it until I saw this in a Whole Foods in St. Louis).

Bottle, shared by eyedrinkale. Amber pour with some white head. Aroma is citrusy, some tropical hops (mango?). Flavor is grainy malt, light bitterness, and a more grassy hop presence. The flavor is not as good as the aroma, but overall it is a good IPA.

Bottle at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Hazy amber pour with a strong tan head. Nose is resiny and fruity, a C-hop bomb. Some mango notes in there as well. The body as creamy and the flavor has a nice caramel base. Citrus fruits and tropical mango character followed by a long resiny pine finish. A very nice IPA!

Bottle. Pours amber with a little bit of lacing. Floral pine and some honey. Peach, and lemon in the flavor. A good beer.

750, corked and baled. Schmancy! Thanks, Theisti! Crystal clear and very dark amber with rubied highlights. Towering, sloppy tannish head and plenty of lace. Hugely citrusy nose--peaches and apricots, just like the brewer promises. Medium body, slightly creamy, a bit of active carb. Caramel and biscuit underneath the mid-palate, carrying a paylod of peach, apricot, pine, grapefruit, and then a nice resiny wash for a finish. This one came on a bit tangy and muddied at first, but then rolled into a nice refreshing, distinctly flavored, and drinkable beer.
