Commercial Description:
Double-Wide I.P.A. uses Columbus and Magnum hops for both bittering and aroma with Chinook hops added in the whirlpool. It is dry hopped with generous amounts of Cascade, Bravo, Centennial, and Chinook hops. The resulting beer has a hop forward aroma, redolent of peach and apricot. The assertive flavor bursts with the citrus qualities of blood orange and lemon with a slight caramel malt backbone to balance the intense hop flavor. There is little restraint in the flavor of this beer; it is certainly not for the pedestrian palate.

Deep red, lots of foam. Nose barely there, a faint hint of pine, bit resiny, but not much going on. Flavor . . . there’s supposed to be hops here, right? I mean, kind of hoppy, definitely bitter, but more just harsh than anything else. Bit of pine, I guess. Lots of malts, sure, but they’re kind of flat, kind of sweet, but not much going on. Weird cookie-ish finish to it, gets incredibly dry. Does have a really nice palate, which just makes me say "there should be more going on here than there is." Really a pretty sucky IPA.

Bottle:   Reddish caramel, hazy, large frothy off-white head, splotchy lacing.   Pale sweet floral aroma, ligher hop aspects.   Smells like an Imperial Pale, not like a Double IPA... hmmm...   Sweet hoppiness on the tongue, but without being bitter.   Clean, with a candyish citrus like sweetness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   This seems like a 1½ IPA.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes somewhat light, pale citrus peel sourness, slight malt sweetness, smidgen of flora, with an underlying bed of hops.   Decent beer, but for an IIPA I expected a bit more.   Thanks Tyler for this freebie!

Pours an amber mahogany color with a yellow head so thick you could plant a flag in it, and after it slowyly disappears, it leaves a nice sticky lacing. Aroma features a distinctive pine aroma, with very subtle caramel and molasses notes beneath it. Taste is very subdued as a whole, with hop bitterness being the most prominentat first, but balanced by a very prominent sweet and short caramel finish. Makes it a very drinkable beer.

pours a nice golden orange with medium white head. aroma is very nice juicy cirtus and floral pine mix. drinks with lots of bitter cirtus and floral hop upfront and flows right to a mild bitter pine for the finish. this one is straight forward but very well done. no noticable malt on this. very fruity and good.

Rating number 1300. Bottle courtesy of either mreusch or tytoanderso as I think they each sent me a bottle within a week of each other. Pours a lightly hazed brown with a thick dense and creamy treacle hued beige head. Light caramel, huge pine and earthy citrus. Big earthy hop presence, light malt and caramel notes. Nice light carbonation giving it a really creamy mouthfeel. Finishes up with a slight hint of alcohol, and some long grapefruit and quinine notes. Pretty tasty.

bottle from secret santa....thanks. Pours amber, orange, hazy, frothy, white foam, that lasted forever. Looks really good in the glass. citrus hops on the aroma. smells very fresh. Taste is medium sweetness, very bitter and dry. Very fresh tasting and enjoyable. Not as sweet as other double Ipas i have had. full body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish. Nice fresh hop after taste.

750 ml bottle. Pours a deep lightly cloudy reddish brown with a thick off white head. Aroma is very strong pine and hop oils, nice citric zestiness with a strong grapefruit character and just a bit of spice. Flavor has a nice strong hop resin juiciness that continues throughout the swallow. Nice floral hop character over the smooth caramel malt sweetness. Lightly tangy finish. Medium body and a prickly carbonation. Nice Imp IPA that refrains from getting overly bitter and harsh despite the high hoppiness.

Bottle thanks to funkybrewster. Pours a murky sand colored orange with a tall white sudsy foam, very sticky lacing. Aroma of toffee, slightly skunked, seemingly a touch sourish malts. Flavor is mostly the same, toffee with dry piney hops and a touch of peachy hops. Medium bodied, lightly sugary and gritty.

750ml bottle. Murky brown color with an awesome off-white head. Big West Coast hop aroma. Despite the big head, it has somewhat mild carbonation. Very complex, with the big malt tones evened out by the solid hop bill. Some toffee and bitter piny nuances. Quite an excellent beer, with just a touch more carbonation wouldn’t be far off from a nice Belgian IIPA. An awesome example of the style.
