It pours with a foamy white head with a rich amber-colored body. Citric aroma and very hoppy, good flavor. The effect it has on the palate is what separates this IPA from others. Good, rich beer! tdcritch (112), Missouri, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 4, 2009 This is probably my favorite beer. It has an amber orange color pour and you can smell the hops as soon as you open the bottle. It has a nice thick white head. The flavor is citrus and grass and you feel it move through your nose as your drink it. A wonderful IPA. jezmez68 (332), Chesterton, Indiana, USA

It’s as good as Bell’s Hopslam, which is my favorite beer. Big, white, fluffy head. Orangeish. Awesome. Only 55 IBU? The dry-hopping is deceiving here. skeils (7), , Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Beautiful copper dark orange pour, nice murky, rich look with sizable attractive head. Hop aroma grabs your attention. Strong hops flavor hits pretty hard at first then smooths out as it warms. My favorite smokestack. hopheaven (85), Eureka, California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Updated: Apr 13, 2009A red beer with an effervescent and creamy off-white head that speaks well of the hops lurking beneath it. Smells strongly of spicy, citrusy hops, with maybe a hint of caramel malt as well. The flavor has moderate to low bitterness in relation to its explosive hoppiness. The best thing about this beer is that it lacks the cloying candy-like sugariness that most Imperial beers of this nature tend to have. It is simply the best IPA I’ve had to date. johnnysmoke (54), Texas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 9, 2009 An impressive start to DIPA. S: The hops are predominant, framed by a underlining sweet maltiness. Hop aromas of pine oil, evergreen needles, mint leafs, grapefruit peels and leafy herbs. Caramel, bready malts are at the edges. F&T: Moderate bodied with a nice chewy creaminess, softly firm from the carbonation. While the hops rule the taste, there is also a nice balance of flavors,Double Wide to be easy to drink and highly enjoyable. Hop tastes of sweet peaches and apricots, mint leafs, earthy, leafy dark green herbs, orange peel and pith, and oily pine needles. Grain bready, caramel maltiness provide at light sweet backing to the hops. The alcohol is barely noticeable, just a low temperature warmth in the back of the palate with the flavor of pepper and pineapple juice. hayduke (1652), Eureka, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 12, 2009 From a 750 ml corked and caged bottle, this bottle opened with a satisfying "pop" like a bottle of champagne. A cloud of steam rose from the bottle like Aladdin’s Lamp and I expected a genie to appear. No genie, so into the glass it went where it was a dark orange with a very creamy fat light tan head the lasted a very long time and left lacing rings like Elmer’s Glue as it slowly settled. The nose was very rich, with ripe tropical fruit, with an aroma of citrus, pine, and flowers. Rich, smooth and malty mouthfeel that slides smoothly over the tongue. The favor is a good blend of malts and hops with a unusually pleasant bitterness that continues on into the finish. A simply superb beer. KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 7, 2008 What an awesome beer! The first of my Boulevard Smokestack series. I really enjoyed it.
It had a very hoppy profile (its a IIPA, shocker I know). Reminded me aof a lot of hop heavy Colorado brews and less so the West coast heavy-hitters. After reading some of the reviews after writing mine, apparently its a prevelant thought. Glad to see the midwest represent!
There was a very floral, citric flavor to be sure, but there was also some minor notes of pine, caramel, bread dough, etc. I am a Bouolevard fan for sure, but this was just good.
