Commercial Description:
No. 7 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. Imperial stouts, like india pale ales, were originally brewed high in alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, in this case not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, plus wheat, rye, oats and spelt. Hopping is equally expansive, balancing the body of the beer with a very respectable 55 IBUs. Approximately 10% of the batch was barrel-aged for four months, then blended with fresh beer before bottling. Za Vas!

Courtesy phillybeer2112. Pours black with a small tan head. smells of dark malts, swet roast, and hints of dark chocolate and coffee. the flavor is pretty hot, moreso than even the 11% lets on. Pretty intense brew. Traces of molasses and coffee, along with dark chocolate and toasted malts formulate its flavor profile. Pretty big and intense brew. Very bold and i like that in my impys.

Test batch tasted at brewery in November. Dark pour with a frothy tan head. Roast and chocolate. Flavor is a bit chalky. Smooth with low carbonation.

Some nice stuff, a good but not special RIS. Black in color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts with alcohol noticeable. Flavor is roasty with dark chocolate and coffee, slight hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is average for the style, fairly full.

Sampled at the bockyhorsey event. Courtesy of Nick I think? Thanks! Pours a super dark brown. Aroma is of oatmeal, roasted grain, and some alcoholic punch. Taste has lots of alcohol, roast, and carbonation. Little bit of vanilla and somewhat smoky. Too carbonated for a RIS in my book, but good otherwise. Perhaps give it some time to age out some of the booziness.

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, anise, chicory, and some hops. Flavor is very similar with some coffee, anise sweetness, earth, and noticeable hops. Medium mouthfeel and enough sweetness to it, but still some hops to it. Interesting.

Courtesy ChzMan. Black. Dense beige head. Bittersweet dark chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, anise, biscuity malt, oak, light dose of vanilla, bit of hops on the finish, and a touch of alcohol. Full body, carbonation is soft but more than moderate. Very nice imperial stout. Drinkable big brew.
