Commercial Description:
No. 7 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. Imperial stouts, like india pale ales, were originally brewed high in alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, in this case not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, plus wheat, rye, oats and spelt. Hopping is equally expansive, balancing the body of the beer with a very respectable 55 IBUs. Approximately 10% of the batch was barrel-aged for four months, then blended with fresh beer before bottling. Za Vas!

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, anise, chicory, and some hops. Flavor is very similar with some coffee, anise sweetness, earth, and noticeable hops. Medium mouthfeel and enough sweetness to it, but still some hops to it. Interesting.

Courtesy ChzMan. Black. Dense beige head. Bittersweet dark chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, anise, biscuity malt, oak, light dose of vanilla, bit of hops on the finish, and a touch of alcohol. Full body, carbonation is soft but more than moderate. Very nice imperial stout. Drinkable big brew.

Bottle from South Bay. Let this one warm up. Poured jet black with an impressive thick, creamy tan head. Sticky lacing. Heavy chocolate and roasted malt nose. Smoke, leather, oak, some bourbon, and oats as well. Velvety smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. Love how it coats your mouth. Bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt hits you first. More sweet than bitter, but held in check. Rich coffee flavor (without the acidity), anise, caramel, and creamy milk-chocolate flavors come through. Hints of bourbon and an earthy smokiness pop occasionally. No soy sauce or wooden flavors, just a thick, lovely stout. The alcohol is well masked, but gives a pleasant warmth. Please brew more of this.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours dark darkness with mocha head. Solid looking brew. The aroma brings up roasty to burnt malts, mild esters and a hit or two of molasses. The taste is rich and near creamy with rich malts, yummy molasses and burnt malts. It then picks up very nice dark fruity esters that play well with the malts to go along with additional notes of smooth wood and bourbon. The various notes as a whole aren’t totally blended and may benefit from additional aging taking this from darn good to stellar. YUM.

750 ml bottle (5803/11960) shared by Odeed. Really dark black with a big, glass lacing cinnamon tan that hung in there then whole while. Nose of chocolate, coffee, and roastiness. Flavor of dark bitter chocolate with some background expresso and light oakiness. Body was extremely creamy and the oak was light and nice since it said that only 10% was BA then mixed with fresh beer.
