Black pour...aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted malts...flavor is sweet and palate is thick and creamy...a typical impy... wavers1 (172), novato, California, USA

There might be a loaf of bread hiding in this bottle somewhere with how much bread is on the nose. Taste has similar elements as on the nose with a sweetness making its way through. Flavorful and sweet. Way cool! rudolf (1782), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 1, 2009 Batch 2008-1, bottle 02158 of 11960. Purchased in Jan ’09, cellared for 9.5mo. Served in a short Blvd chalice. Anise, dark fruits and cocoa in the nose. Deep, dark red color with a large, thick mocha colored head. The beer is thick and lubricious, but the finish is mostly clean, with just a bit of residual sweetness. The flavor is roasty, cocoa, vanilla, rum and dark fruits. The nicest thing about this beer is the drinkability. Boulevard has made a thick and flavorful imperial stout without a hugely sweet finish, lots of bitterness or too much barrel character. Every flavor is harmonious and the Belgian character of the beer is evident. I’m glad I saved a bottle, I remember not enjoying it as much new. Not sure if it was me not appreciating how unique this beer is or because a little age on the beer helps it out. Trev (884), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA
