| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Some melony alcohols aka wws, but not nearly as strong. Definitely has a burn in the throat though. Aroma also has some toffee/caramel. Flavor is chocolaty, fresh fruit, hops are grassy and have a strange astringency. Too hot, maybe in a year or two.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2009 bottle, #07326, very black color with strong head that settled into a cappucino froth, lots of chocolate plum and rye whiskey aromas, flavor is hot at first but around 60 hits its stride and mellows out a lot, lots of molasses, dry cocoa, fig, whiskey finish Lagunitasfan (439), San Diego, California, USA

Nose is dark malt, soy sauce, and cocoa. Black color with brown highlights. Gave a super thick , dark, gooey head that left a sticky lace. Fluffy with thick carbonation in the mouth. Sweet with hints of hops. I’m guessing this one would have been better in one year. notalush (2665), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2009 I have had the good fortune to have several bottles of this beer come into my possession over the past few months, so I figured it was high time I opened one - this particular bottle (bottle #7600) was sent my way by one beastiefan2k - many thanks, Eugene - this is really want you want an IS to look like - thick dark pour, with a substantial tan head that clings to the glass - the nose is quite vinous, with some bourbon-ish character, alcohol warmth, roasted malt, anise, the faintest hints of oak - smooth, creamy mouthfeel, the familiar texture of oats used in the brewing process - the flavor is quite roasty up front, with notes of licorice, cocoa - this is followed by light vinous character, very subtle hints of the barrel - finishes with espresso-like bitterness and warming alcohol - fairly smooth and balanced for its strength - not world class, but damn close. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Nose very vinious and boozy and not reminscent of an imperial stout. But not bad either..some yeasty phenols and roasted malts show through as well. Dark beer with beautiful head. Vinious & smooth mouth and flavors with significant but not overdone bitterness. No mindblowing going on here, but solid nonetheless. tennisjoel (946), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 30, 2009 Black body with a huge head, probably the largest head I’ve ever encountered for the style. Nice aroma of cocoa, licorice, plum, oatmeal, vanilla, and coffee. This is lovely. Rich and decadent. Many times recently, this style has grown thin and old on me. However, when I have a good one like this, it’ what brings me back to loving imperial stouts. Excellent! badlizard (2347), Berkeley, California, USA
