But not bad either..some yeasty phenols and roasted malts show through as well. Dark beer with beautiful head. Vinious & smooth mouth and flavors with significant but not overdone bitterness. No mindblowing going on here, but solid nonetheless. tennisjoel (951), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 30, 2009 Black body with a huge head, probably the largest head I’ve ever encountered for the style. Nice aroma of cocoa, licorice, plum, oatmeal, vanilla, and coffee. This is lovely. Rich and decadent. Many times recently, this style has grown thin and old on me. However, when I have a good one like this, it’ what brings me back to loving imperial stouts. Excellent! badlizard (2385), Berkeley, California, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2009 Bottle No. 06166 of 11960. My family was really taken by this. It seemed a bit high on the alcohol but I didn’t appreciate that it was barrel-aged--I can see where that’s coming into the flavor profile. It’s so rich, with a lovely blend of roast and chocolate and fruit, a touch of hops but not over the top. Dark lace head, great body, wonderful palate. I should have bought more of these. beernbourbon (313), chicago, Illinois, USA

Aroma is roasted malt, sweetness, tobacco, coffee, and dark chocolate. Flavor is velvety, great and true to nose with a hint of blackberry or currants in there. Finish is very smooth and creamy with coffee and chocolate notes. Really exceeded my expectations. ericandersnavy (1138), crossroads, Texas, USA
