Commercial Description:
No. 7 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. Imperial stouts, like india pale ales, were originally brewed high in alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, in this case not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, plus wheat, rye, oats and spelt. Hopping is equally expansive, balancing the body of the beer with a very respectable 55 IBUs. Approximately 10% of the batch was barrel-aged for four months, then blended with fresh beer before bottling. Za Vas!

This offering from Boulevard Brewing Company is everything a Imperial Stout should be, It Has that instant flavor of dark roasted malts, with hints of rye. The addition of belgian yeast was a nice compliment to the overall complexity of this brew. I was expecting more hops in this brew, but is sincerely the best tasting imperial stout I have had to this day. you can bet I will be longing for more once this limited release bottling has been retired. Thanks Boulevard!

I don’t give a 5 in the looks department very often, but this one has some insane head, even with a mild pour, and crazy fluffy retention and lacing. The liquid itself does not appear to have any highlights. Smell is of earthy chocolate, a bit of wood maybe? No hint of the bourbon aged blend in here. Tobacco, mild alcohol. Good. Taste, aah there’s the bourbon. Surprisingly strong for the small amount blended in. This beer is fantastic, where do i start. Mouth is pretty thick and low to medium in carbonation, which is where I want a stout. The chocolate, oak, booze, heat, tobacco, earth, love, it’s all there. This reminds me of a better version of the Abyss.

Black body with a huge head, probably the largest head I’ve ever encountered for the style. Nice aroma of cocoa, licorice, plum, oatmeal, vanilla, and coffee. This is lovely. Rich and decadent. Many times recently, this style has grown thin and old on me. However, when I have a good one like this, it’ what brings me back to loving imperial stouts. Excellent!

750 ml bottle (5803/11960) shared by Odeed. Really dark black with a big, glass lacing cinnamon tan that hung in there then whole while. Nose of chocolate, coffee, and roastiness. Flavor of dark bitter chocolate with some background expresso and light oakiness. Body was extremely creamy and the oak was light and nice since it said that only 10% was BA then mixed with fresh beer.

Pours oily and olive-black. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and burnt toast. The flavor is very dry and bitter, with dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and dark berries. Great mouthfeel.

This ale pours with a dark brown color. The large head appears a dark tan in color. The potent nose reveals dark chocolate, espresso and burned fruit. Sweet, well extracted and very complex, but doesn’t quite have the mouth coating, non stop flavor, but rather spurts of deliciousness. A beauty and a beer to put away. Rich, very sweet and vinous, chocolaty.

Bottle No. 06246 pours black with a 4 inch head and lace sheets. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, all that dark stuff. The flavor is very complex, dark dried fruits, dark chocolate, coffee, sour fruit notes, earth, chocolate covered cherries, and hops to balance. The palate is rich and lively, nice and cleansing. Overall, very nice.
