Commercial Description:
Lately it occurs to us that if, back in 1989, you planed on starting a brewery in the back of your carpentry shop, you'd have been wise to seek out someone like Harold "Trip" Hogue. A collector of ancient Volvos, Trip was well-qualified for the make-do engineering required to coax recalcitrant equipment out of retirement and onto making the first Boulevard beers.

The Tripel style originated in the Trappist brewery of Westmalle Abbey in pre-war Antwerp province. Its numeric moniker results from the old Belgian practice of naming beers based on the amount of malt used in the brew. A "Simple" was the lightest-bodied brew. Doubling the malt bill resulted in a "Dubbel", while a "Tripel" contained three times the amount of malt (and, as a result, three times the amount of alcohol.) True to style, our Long Strange Tripel is a golden ale with estery aromas, a dense, creamy head and a sweet finish.

750ml, first bottling. Dispensed into a proper Boulevard Smokestack goblet. Sweet, fruity and spicy aroma, pleasantly enticing with notes of melon, pear, tangerine, honey, doughy yeast, peppery spice and faint wafts of floral perfume. Light-medium golden-amber color, translucent and lightly sedimented with a lasting, very fine head. Flavor is primarily sweet and malty to start, sugary and full, then seeing a moderate dose of spicy hop bitterness and flavor, mingling with the strong yeast esters and a touch of peppery, warming alcohol at the finish, which is lengthy and shows fading hints of the toasty, grainy and sweet malts once more. Active on the palate with a delicate acidity and a full body. A highly drinkable take on the style -- I’m not going to have any trouble at all polishing off the full 750.

Tasting at PP C-bad, thanks to DenverLogan! Cloudy light orange hue, white head, watery lacing. Nose is bubblegum and cotton candy, yeast, light fruits, grassy hops, delicious! Initial taste of big fruit syrup, bubblegum yeast, floral and grassy hops, spice, pepper, wheat, finishes sweet and dry with modest alcohol burn. Watery smooth texture with ample carbonation. Great flavor profile, high drinkability, pleasing finish, one of the highlights of the night!

750 ml bottle-Pours a hazy orangish with a hint of amber and has a nice white covering for a head. Aroma of yest, citrus, and spices. Taste is of yeast, caramel, malt, sweetness, hops, and slight alcohol. This medium bodied brew is very well balanced and qui9te nice. I wish all of Boulevard’s brews cam across as well as their Smokestack Series. Nice Job.

A hazed orange pour with tan head and lace. Clove and hot cinnamon spice on the nose. Corriander and a decent bitter. Very good carbonation and mouthfeel for the style. A beer I would like to sample again with a clean fresh palate.

Sampled at the 2008 Music City Brewers Fest. Hazy orange with a frothy white head that left light lacing. Nice fruit, malt, and spice mix in the aroma. Sweet fruit flavor with a hop backing. Medium body and lively carbonation. Starts sweet but ends with a slight bitterness.
