Commercial Description:
Boulevard Lunar Ale is a cloudy, russet brown beer, with subtle aromatic notes provided by our special proprietary yeast strain. Lunar Ale’s distinctive rounded, mellow flavor is crowned by a crisp, dry finish. The old world art of bottle conditioning creates a secondary fermentation, resulting in a beer that tastes fresher, better, longer.

An amber pour with off white head and lace. Caramel and light bitter. An herbal nose and flavor. Thin and watery. Not much but drinkable.

Bottle from Wal-Mart in Lebanon, MO. I read the label and thought this was going to be a brown ale. Eh, I thought, okay. Got home, poured it into a glass and didn’t think it was a brown ale. Checked the classification here, and sho’ nuff, it’s a dunkelweizen. Smells of peanut butter. Pours a medium brown. Tastes like a weizen, only a bit more toasty. Smooth finish. A good American example of the style. I dig it.

Didn’t really care for this one. Pours a small head with an orange/brown color body. Has a unique flavor that didn’t appeal to me me but I could see others liking it. I might try it again to see if I change my mind on this one.

Bottle. Pours a dark red brown color. The aroma is dried fruit and clove. Tastes similar to smell with some subtle spice. I really enjoy this beer for some reason.

I had this beer before I’d really developed my beer palate and was pretty turned off. In fact, I gave the majority of the six pack I bought to my moocher friend. I gave it a second chance only because it came in a mix pack I picked up in St. Louis. It pours a milk chocolate brown with little head. The Aroma is of yeast and dried fruit, as well as clove and banana. Taste not very complex, but sweet and fruity, yeasty, spicy and a bit nutty. I’m not sure I could drink many of these, but it’s better than I remember it being.

12 oz. Bottle. Redish Brown in color. Mostly diminishing off white head. Fruity aroma. Flavor is watery and fizzy. Slightly bitter finish. Nothing special about this one.

Slightly hazy red-brown w/a small, totally diminishing head. Aroma of raisins, toffee, banana and light roast. Banana, clove and slightly metallic initial flavor, followed by a sour, wheaty/grainy finish. A bit too much carbonation for my taste. Musty, glassy aftertaste

Bottle best by October 17, 2008. Pours cloudy amber with a small off white head. The aroma is easily identified as a German wheat style and this pleases me. Clove and banana are in the nose along with bark, caramel, and something just slightly soured. The flavor has less defined esters with more emphasis on mellow, semi-sweet malts and wooden hops. Generic barley flavor comes out in the flavor along with slightly floral hints. I think this is clean and made to style, just too mellow for my taste.

Man, this is not bad at all. The 42 score is not fair. Sure, it’s not the most flavorful and robust and nuanced dunkelweizen, but it’s clean, balanced, and quite drinkable. I always think it’s a treat to drink one of these because it’s rare to see an American brewer take on this style, let alone one that distributes to east TN. There are adequate esters in the way of banana and light spices, a bready body, and a woody finish. No problems here, just a nice drinking, clean, and balanced beer.
