Goodgrief (1057), Middletown, Delaware, USA Aug 23, 2008 Unremarkable brown pour with a bready malt backbone. Lots of roast and some banana notes. Thin and watery and a bit astringent. Not my favorite beer.
AllAboutStout (584), Cincinnati, USA Nov 16, 2008 Pours brown in color with no head forming on the pour. A bit of light peaks through the edges and adds a reddish tone. Smell is all roasted malts.
There is a definite spice and lemon flavor going on in the taste. Characteristics and flavor closely resembling a wit. Decent twist on the style. However with the flavors, I’m expecting something very light, crisp and refreshing.
Another uninspiring beer. thejoeshow (140), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2008 12 0z bottle. Pours a hazy medium brown with yellowish amber highlights and a huge frothy off-white head. Aroma has lots of wheat and yeasty notes. Flavor is slightly chocolaty with more focus on the wheat and yeast. There are not that many banana esters or flavors I’m noticing. I do have to say that I am not very impressed with the mouthfeel. It seems a little too thin. Overall, not terrible but there are for sure better Dunkelweizens out there.
Silphium (2041), Lansing, Michigan, USA Oct 21, 2008 Murky medium brown or brown/orange, medium tight buff head. Toasty nose with notes of chocolate and banana. Creamy, estery body with chocolate-covered banana, toast, and cereal, finishing bitter. Not too sweet. Quaffable. Decent session ale. bierkoning (5052), La Tropica, Netherlands Oct 20, 2008 Bottle from Lithy, thanks! Orange brown color, hazy. Malt and a hint of nutmeg in the aroma. Malty sweetish flavor with pear and nutmeg. Not unpleasant, but not outstanding. fidelis83 (95), Clinton, Iowa, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is banana, sweet ginger/clove spice, and a little dark dried fruit. Flavor is yeasty bananas, cotton candy, caramel malt and all around pretty good. Finish is pretty quick but a little lemon and some spicy yeast bite.
