Commercial Description:
Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard’s special offering for the holiday season. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the "spiciness" of Chinook hops.

Nice spicy malty aroma. Hints of cinamon and vanilla with a great hops finish, though mild bitterness. Overall mild flavors, I have had better winter ales.

Medium sized tan head, fair retention and some stringy lace. Murky copper color. Lightly spicey nose. Med/light body, somewhat watery. Light spice flavors, cinnamon out front. Finish is dry, watery. Thanks Chris!

I’m sorry but I don’t recall who it was that sent me this beer. I only know that it was acquired in a trade with someone that was very cool!

Bottled in 2003
Pours a silty mahogany colored body with an initially fluffy russet head.. later fades to nothing. The aroma is largely malty... big, sweet, and fruity. There is a vast presence of caramel, and other cooked sugars. There truly is a nice almond note that brings a fantastic nuttiness to the brew. You know… this is the kind of beer I would like to see cask conditioned in a bourbon barrel. Anyway, there are nice notes of vanilla and macadamia nut… I’m really digging this one, and it’s only getting tastier as it warms. I’m starting to taste pecan pie!

The aroma is a lightly hopped beer that is filled with evergreen trees and grapefruit. The aroma has a mild nutty malt. Cherry? Corriander? I wish the aroma was more powerful. The appearance is a body that is cloudy medium brown color with a light brown/off-white head that is average and frothy. There is virtually no lacing on this lasting head. The flavor is initially lightly sweet and nutty. The finish is moderately bitter/acidic/sour. It is an average finish length. The palate is lightly syrupy with a soft carbonation. Overall, not a bad beer, just not really exciting. It doesn’t taste, smell, or look bad. Mostly boring.

’04 bottle courtesy of Heemaah. Dark brown-plum body with an off-white head. Light plum/caramel aroma with grapefruit-rind/spicy hops. The spicy hops take over the flavor, the have a strong pine/grapefruit resinous flavor with woody dryness. Quite interesting, dont’t think I’ve really tasted Chinook by themselves before. Otherwise the malt in this beer is pretty ordinary, light caramel base with plum notes on top. The beer gets props for being different.

Bottle Pours a cloudy light ridish brown with a large very fine creamy light tan head. PLenty of smooth heavy lacing. Lots of pitted fruit notes in the aroma. Reminds me of a light barleywine. Flavorsa are woody, molassas, and spices like cinnimon and maybe a little cloves. Fairly strond bitter hops and a dry woody aftertaste. INtersting, robust, a bit heavy and tasty. I still think it reminds me of a light or more drinkable BW
