Commercial Description:
Boulevard Pale Ale is a smooth, fruity, medium-bodied and well hopped ale with year-round appeal. We include caramel malt in the recipe to provide a rich flavor and amber color. Pale Ale is the first beer we produced and continues to be a perennial favorite.

Very drinkable. The nose has some hops to it, nothing too strong or interesting. The taste has hops and a bit of barley or some other kind of grain that I wasnt able to place my finger on really. It could have been the glass the more I think about it.

Courtesy of Beerhandy in trade. Aroma and flavor very balanced malt and light hops. APA’s just not my thing.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with robanion, thanks Ray!) Woops, this beer is smelling a bit infected. The funky, somewhat sour nose might be okay for a saison, but not for an American pale ale. Can’t really detect any malts or hops in the aroma, just the funk. The flavor is much more acceptable, but there is still a moderately strong element of citrusy sourness present here as well, and it seems to be the dominant force in the flavor. Note, however, that the flavor doesn’t taste infected at all if I hold my nose well into the finish, so it’s just the funky odor that’s causing all the problems. Behind the citrus, there isn’t too much going on, a moderately bitter hoppiness, and then a gentle pale maltiness behind that, and overall, it tastes minimally sweet. The body seems a bit thin to me, so let’s call this light-to-medium, with citrusy sour/bitter mouthfeel. Bright amber in color, with a slight haze to the appearance. The off-white head rises to a standard half-inch in height, but I poured the last half of the bottle rather vigorously when I saw that the head was going to be stubborn to develop. Lacing is minimal, with just a single strand of lace hanging vertically on the glass. Even if the nose wasn’t so sour and funky, which of course impacts the flavor, I still don’t think I’d like this beer much. Not enough malt in the mix for me, and the citrusy hops isn’t pleasant enough to compensate for that.

Had this on tap. Thin head that dissipates quickly. Light copper color. Nice flowery, hoppy aroma and flavor with moderate hop bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Solid brew.

Bottled, thanks beerhandy! Clear amber, average head. aroma of toffee with restrained hoppiness. Dryish and light bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Medium bitterness. Another Boulevard beer that aims for balance, and succeeds.

Pale orange pour with a cap of ivory head. Pleasant citrus rind hop aroma. Brisk hop bitterness with a nice warm malt backbone. Pleasantly mouthfilling without being heavy. This is a solid APA. Basic, but well crafted and balanced. Lots of breweries seem to do an APA as a toss-off beer, but this isn’t one of those.

Golden color with a little hazing, medium white head that lasts. Sweet aroma and kind of bitter sweet citrus flavor. Not my favorite Boulevard product but certainly not a bad beer. Very drinkable but not something that I would go out of my way to drink.

Pours golden with a nice white head. Flavor is a little sweet malt, with citrus and grassy notes. Somewhat bready. Hops are mild. Not great, but not awful. Hows that for a wishy washy rating?
