drewbeerme (1711), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 6, 2008 Updated: Jul 1, 2008 750ml bottle. thanks to gregis for this! pours light slightly hazy golden with foamy white head. aroma is grainy, spicy, farmhousey, and grassy. flavor is slightly sweet, grainy, biscuity, hay, spicy hop finish. lively carbonation and full mouth feel. perhaps a little too sweet and not dry enough. a solid classic example of the style which is really impressive. reminisent of saison dupont. now how bout some brett on this? 3.7.
7/1/08, thanks to holdenn for sharing. this time it came off very straight forward, clean, american, and so drinkable. nothing really rustic or farmhousey about it though. tasty enough.3.6.
MrBunn (795), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 750 ml bottle from Whole Foods in Brentwood, MO. Uncorked, this unleashes a big, fluffy white head that covers a cloudy yellow body. Aromas are kind of funky and sour with a bit of a floral and lemon side to them. Flavor has a touch of white pepper to add to the funk and lemon thing. Very nice and refreshing... pepsican (640), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA Jul 11, 2008 Hazy orange pour with a thick white head. Aroma was skunk and fruity esters. Earthy flavor, lots of flower and citrus with a bit of pepper and clove. Slightly skunked finish, yet refreshing. Maybe I got a bad bottle, but I sure didn’t expose this beer to light. It still wasn’t bad. holdenn (1102), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle from Mass Beverages in Lawrence. This is the only bottle I brought back from KS, so I’m hoping its good. Pours a cloudy yellow with a white soapy head that laces down. After having the LA Carnevale, I can see how straightforward of a Saison this is. Sweet malts and yeast with citrus and a touch of toffee and biscuits. Spritzy and lively carbonation. Sweet pale malt flavors. Hay citrus, earthy, herbal notes. Finishes with herbal dry hops. A tasty and drinkable Saison. I could put a few of these away pretty easily. bbrock81 (175), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Jul 7, 2008 750 mL bottle. What a wonderful beer this was! A bright yellow with a huge, thick head. Aromas of citrus, apple, a good bit of spice, some malt and a hint of hops. Flavor tracked the aroma, but was a fair bit milder. Very good; grab some if you’re able to. KUEric (551), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Jul 7, 2008 750 ml bottle. It was quite the saison. I was impressed with its foamy white head atop the yellowy-brown-gold beer heavy with carbonation. Lots of lemon, wheat grass, spices, and a little apple on the nose. A great aroma. The flavor wasn’t any worse though. Similar flavors to the aroma, just right. Nothing dominated the palate, but it was very flavorful.
