after4ever (1717), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 750, corked and baled. Thanks, Skoi! Cloudy bright yellow when the bottle has been roused a bit; clear sparkling light gold before that. Dense and creamy white head, if a bit thin. Lemon and grass nose. Creamy, deliciously light body. Hay and lemon mid-palate. A delicious triumph of american engineering, getting this tricky style pointed in the right direction and behaving so attractively.
Hophead22 (169), Redlands, California, USA Sep 1, 2008 750ml bottle. Very carbonated, not a gusher but a lot of foam in the glass. Poured a medium golden, with a BIG white fluffy head. Smell of lemons, very acidic aroma. Light flavor, a little citrus, not too bad. steview (748), Oceanside, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 this reminds me slightly of orval--this is rather dry, with citrus peel, and creamy, with the slightest hint of banana; but it could be a lot more... it wants to be more acidic, more funky; it would be great if it went the lambic route... otherwise, it is a damn good brew. Nuffield (2539), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Aug 23, 2008 Not my kind of saison. I was surprised, really. I broke out a big bottle of this for a picnic with a neighbor. I was going to give him something different to try (I don’t think he buys much non-mainstream beer) but the flavor profile was so routine. The hops are pronounced and they give it a dry tackiness, and there’s a strong yeast dimension, but the fruitiness was subdued, there was no funkiness (I guess Fantome is too high of a standard to set), and much of the effect to be not far beyond a summer ale. Didn’t impress me. Headbanger (975), Aurora, Illinois, USA Aug 22, 2008 750ml bottle(batchS7290)-Pours a hazy yellow with a nice small tight white head which emits an aroma of citrus, yeast, firecracker smoke, and some hops. Taste is of the same with the hops becoming more abundant. This medium bodied brew finishes with a nice firm dryness. This is a damn good brew from Boulevard. Davecooks (1141), Bay Area, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle via trade with mreusch. Batch S8093. Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with active carbonation and a billowy white head. Orange and citrus aroma with a straw-like earthyness. A pretty wild Saison. Very hoppy, thats for sure. Somewhat grainy with with an almost lavender-like herbal note. Slight fruitiness. Very dry on the palate. Very enjoyable.
