Commercial Description:
Medium amber in color, Seeyoulator offers a heady, estery banana aroma. A luscious maltiness predominates, with balancing notes from Hallertau hops. Cedar aging lends just a hint of spice to the finish.

Draught @ brewery tour: This one poured a fairly clear amber color with a very small white head. It didn’t last and didn’t leave much lacing at all. The aroma is sweet, malty caramel with a hint of nuttiness and spices. Perhaps some fruits in there also. The taste is quite good. Sweet and malty, with just a touch of bitterness leaving a hint of a dry taste. Very Nice!

Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper/brown/orange with a pretty substantial head. I fit about an inch of liquid and the rest of the glass is full of foam on first pour. Aromas are nice and heavily fruity... loads of pears, apples and peaches with a little caramel... Didn’t see that coming and I don’t know if I want it in my doppelbock, but it smells really nice. Unfortunately, flavor isn’t quite as oddly pleasant in my opinion. It has a pretty decent amount of that fruit presence shining through, but an astringent alcohol and a little bit of yeasty spiciness don’t work well together with it. It seems to me like the three are pulling in different directions and I would guess that if they mellow a bit with age this could be outstanding. As is, it’s not bad, but not a very polished final product.

Bottle thanks to Swalden28. The smell is spices, ceder, celery, malts, yeast, and caramel. The look is clear, amber in color, and has an off white head. The taste is sweet, malts, yeast, and caramel.

Deep caramel, cloudy with an off-white... have you ever heard of a lasting head? Well hear this. It stays around until you’re done enjoying it. Simple Crystal and lighter caramel malt nose. Roasted, molasses, oat malt flavor. Syrupy mouthfeel with a fizzy backend.

medium to sweetness, lightly bitter, thick feel, full body, average carbonation. I’m not sure how this compares with other dopplebocks, but I found this one enjoyable enough.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Stem Glass at 50°. Color is a deep amber with very good carbonation. Head is a light tan that starts big and loose then falls quickly. Aroma of alcohol, a toasted caramel and a faint orange scent in the back. It has a medium body that goes down with a soft fizzy mouth feel. Finish is moderately sweet with alcohol up front then a little butterscotch, cinnamon and pepper end with just a hint of yeast. After taste has a mild bitterness with the alcohol standing out. Overall its not as good as I was expecting, the alcohol dominates all aspects.

750 from Zipps in Minneapolis. Pours a firey deep reddish brown with a bit of off white head. Rich, malty nose with a dusty cedar character. Good rich Miunich malt character with some earthy hop character. There ceadr keeps this beer from being totally lackluster. We have a medium, and very drinkable body with a little touch of sweetness in the finish. Not bad, but not great.

The beer pours with a medium sized head that sticks around for a little while and sticks to the glass pretty well. The color is a dark reddish amber. Its clear but dark and thick enough to make it a bit difficult to see through. This is an interesting beer. First of all I am not sure I have ever had a doppelbock out of a 750mL bottle, particularly a cork and wire bottle. The beer is definitely well lagered. The thing is I am not always upset at a doppelbock that may not be well lagered. Either way, what is up with the name, its so voyeuristic and Nazi-esque, it freaks me out. Back to the beer, the lagering is well represented in a nice dry aspects, which may also be affected by the cedar. Either way the two mix well. Aroma has a bit of a sweet (but not sugary) aspect to it. While the commercial description here says banana I really don’t get those esters but some light, extremely muted esters may be there. But again this dry lager and cedar mix seems to be there. A little bit of a vegetal aspect from the hops emerges as well. This is a bit more present at the end of the flavor with just a bit of bitterness (especially apparent with the clean dry lagering). The mouthfeel is nicely soft and felt compared to what is a well lagered dry beer, I like that a lot. The bottle conditioning is apparent as the last pour is much thicker and really clouds up the brew. As far as doppelbocks I like them more aggressive, a bit less clean, more malt forward, less on the hops, and almost completely different than this. But as far as this kind of doppelbock goes, I can do it.
750mL cork and wire in a Darkness snifter/tulip glass.
