I could leave my rating at "wow, that’s nice" but it wouldn’t do justice. Sweet, great mouthfeel, and malty like the day is long. Well balanced all around. All that, and what a great name to pay tribute to the -ator part of dopplebock tradition! Nicely done. This is one I’ll wait around for.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 23, 2009 750ml bottle. Pours a murky tea-like amber with a pillowy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet woody malts (I actually smell some cedar) with some floral notes.
The flavor is very sweet caramel malts and molasses, wood notes with some noticeable plasticky alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.
Overall, too unbalanced on the sweet side for me. The cedar is interesting, but I get some other unique notes in the flavor that I can’t quite identify, but am not digging. theisti (1689), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 23, 2009 750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri shared with my friend Brent. Batch 2-2009 8/10 stamped on the label. Pour is a mostly clear copper orange with a nicely formed two inch off white head. Aroma is the wood initially, bright and fresh cedar, followed behind that by softy subtle caramel sweetness and some resin grain. Some light straw grassiness is present. Taste is the resin cedar wood grain up front, followed closely by caramel and orange fruit sweetness, though its not a bright sweetness, muted as in the nose. The grass and straw finish out the taste with more of the drying tannic wood. Palate is medium to thin and has a high level of carbonation which put the flavors a bit off balance. A touch of alcohol present in the back. This was an interesting beer though I thought a bit too much of the wood came through for my taste. scrizzz (1325), kirkland, Washington, USA

Another nice attempt at using cedar in beer.
pours copper, off-white head.
aroma, malty, grainy, dark fruits, hints of spiced wood from the cedar.
flavor, dark fruits, mild grassy hops, hints of wood, and spiced mouthfeel. Cedar adds a nice touch but remained very hidden and that is not nearly as spicy as what we have been used with cedar aging beers here in Tampa. bvc (336), Kenmore, Washington, USA

We get Boulevard in WA, but this had to be traded for via scrizzz...thanks Click. Sweet wheat, golden raisins with some faint cedar and a touch of yeasty bubblegum. The cedar does fade pretty quickly. Caramel wheat, banana, sweet maltiness, prickly carb, with some well played bittering on the end that has presence of grass and some sweet cedar. Another well crafted Boulevard beer...thanks Clint. after4ever (2809), Brier, Washington, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Corked bottle from me, because I’m worth it. Pours a deep cedar amber with a thick body and a thick beige head. Aroma is sweet but subtle caramel and earty-sweet vegetable. Flavor is caramel molasses, sweet bread, and a sweet grassy hops in the finish. Thick and slightly tingly on the tongue. Nice beer but there is little cedar in my portion. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Bottle from Krackie97: Pours a deep, slightly hazed stained wood color with orange highlights, the head solid and light tan. Nose wasn’t overly impressive as the lager yeast dominated, though the cedar was trying to peak through and maybe a little orange, spice, and alcohol was noted as well. Cedar aging is evident here, unfortunately the beer as a serious lack of body. The yeast here is all wrong for the style as it is producing almost pilsnery esters yet with an aftertaste of banana. The complex malt profile of a good doppelbock seems to be completely lacking here..and the alcohol is peppery and hot. The carbonation is overzeleous and gassy...the hops again are something more akin to a pilsner than a doppelbock. Unfortunately, this beer is a fail.
