Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 Purchase a single 750 ml bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in Shorewood, MN. Pours a semi-hazy cola brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of dark fruity caramel malt, some raisins, figs, dark pitted fruit and a touch of yeast. Taste is smooth, creamy, medium bodied, with some carbonation and flavors of dark roasted malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, and a touch of raisins. Finish is slightly metallic from the high alcohol with a dark fruit and yeast aftertaste. allendodd (18), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 Pours a large head with a hazy, deep brown/orange liquid. Nose is sweet molasses and ripe fruit. Flavor of sweet malt and fruit open and run through the middle acts with a slightly dry grain denouement. The second taste is dominated in the middle acts by a mild yeast flavor in the backing chorus. The finish is slightly astringent (I’m not sure what to make of that) which keeps the sweetness just in check. I’m liking this beer just fine. It can come over to my house any time. talon1117 (612), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Nov 6, 2009 Batch 69121. Pours a mostly clear, effervescent, auburn color with an average, fizzy, creamy, beige head which leaves a very thin, lasting layer and minimal lace. Nose is nice but not great; very perfumey from the start, brown sugar and light vanilla beans, dried apricots, clove, faint banana, and some cinnamon. Flavor is similar with some sweetness to begin of dried apricots, brown sugar, vanilla, and clove but quickly dries and leaves some cinnamon, herbs, and perfume. Palate is okay with a moderate body, velvety/lightly syrupy mouthfeel, a light dryness, and soft to lively carbonation. Finishes lightly dry with spicy cinnamon, golden raisins, some warmth, herbs, and the sweetness all but disappearing. It was good but not really my style of Quad; I really like the sweet ones with lots of fruit. The spicy cinnamon was a nice touch but the perfume was a bit much. Quite a drinkable quad but not necessarily what I looking for. A brewery I am beginning to like but not one of favorites from them. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 24, 2009 750ml bottle, pours dark amber with thick foamy head. Aroma is molasses, fruit, caramel. Flavor is sweet and fruity with hops background. Definitely full-bodied and complex. Really enjoyed this beer. potbeercollege (252), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 23, 2009 750 ml bottle. darker brown amber with medium off-white head. Aroma is malty and sweet with variety fruit, carmel, spices, and hops and lemon grass. Flavor is caramel and spicy, with yeast. almost full-bodied with big aroma . alcohol adds warmth. Finish is sweet and alcoholic and spiced. Overall, a fun, pretty complex brew. deyholla (506), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 20, 2009 Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured an amber brown with a light brown head. Aroma had dark fruit notes as well as malts leading to an overall sweet aroma. Flavor was a bit unbalanced with the malts dominating at the beginning and a bit of an alcohol bite towards the finish. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Oct 20, 2009 750ml caged and corked bottle (Batch# 69198) served in a Livery trappist glass. Very murky brownish orange pour with a thin head of lasting tan foam. A decent amount slippery lace was left around the glass. The aroma consisted of dark fruits, caramel, candi sugar, a touch of alcohol, and also some spicy yeast esters. The flavor had a big hit of dark fruit skins, candi sugar, plums, bready yeast, caramel, and some spice. Nice, warming, unintrusive alcohol. Full-bodied and lush. A light amount of crisp, aggressive carbonation. Pretty impressive. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Oct 17, 2009 Bottle, thanks Douglas. Pours deep copper, with a tan head. Aroma is cinnamon, brown sugar, fruit, malt, and some spices. Flavor is brown sugar, cinnamon, fruit, malt, spices, and alcohol. Fairly heavy body, and a finish that starts sweet, and ends dry. Wow, this is good. I would think aging this would interesting.
