Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

750 mL bottle. Impulse buy at Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits. It’s the end of the semester (the week before finals, at least), and it’s been a long one. I didn’t plan on picking up such a big beer. I’ve really gotten away from drinking really strong beers, not intentionally, but as a result of my hectic work/school schedule I’ve mostly stuck with college beer staples such as PBR and Fat Tire. But this was a real treat. This beer, this Boulevard Sixth Glass Quadrupel, with a single solitary sip, sent a wave of relaxation over me that I haven’t had from a beer in quite a long time. It is smooth, it is sweet and well balanced. It’s nose is sweet. It pours with a thick, slightly tan head and cloudy dark brown body. I would go into more detail, but I don’t feel like picking this beer apart right now. I don’t want to. I just want to let it warm my stomach and relax my nerves, as only a good beer can. It doesn’t stand out as a great quad. I’ve had better...not in years, but I’ve had better. But for a guy who’s been months without a beer of this caliber, it is heaven.

750 ml Bottle. Pours a brownish red, but dull, not fully amber in color. Heavy styrofoam head. Malt and caramel aroma, subtly sweet. Really good initial flavor, molasses, honey, yeast, malt, actually hard to describe. Not exactly a highly complex taste, but difficult to pin down. The alcohol is definitely there to be tasted. My first forray into the quads. I’d like to try some more, justto see where this stacks up. I like it, in my relative ignorance of the style.

750 ml bottle from the Bayou. Pours an amber, almost red color with a thick orange head. The nose is sweet; malty, yeast and some light molasses. The flavor was interesting; sweet malts, yeast, some dry fruit, like a barley wine or even a high abv lager. Not much of a quad, or at least a different take on the style. A medium alcohol presence. Not bad.

Pours a lovely murky brown. Nutty nose with slight alcohol and maybe some candy?. Some chocolate. It doesn’t give up a whole lot from my New belgium snifter. Medium full mouthfeel that I want to call sticky. A bitter carmely chocolate taste and I’m just not getting this beer. I may have to try it again?

Dark amber pour, big giant head, nice lacing. Sweet dark aroma. High carbonation, lots of alcohol, very sweet with a somewhat cloying grape and apple flavors. Some phosphoric acid bitterness. A little too much alcohol, but a complex tasty and interesting brew.

750ml Bottle: Thanks waolsen! Aroma of yeast, malts, dark ripe fruits, light spices, slight raisins, light pepper, and slight candi sugar. Poured brown/deep amber/orange in color with a medium to large-sized, rough, sandpaper, beige head that lasted throughout. Very hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of dark ripe fruits, rum soaked raisins, yeast, malts, caramel, slight chocolate, slight alcohol, slight cherries, and spices. Medium to full body. Viscous, lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, caramel, malts, yeast, and spice finish is slightly dry. 10.5%ABV is pretty well hidden.

Murky brown with a nice light-brown head with excellent retention. of brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and a moderate fruitiness including plum, raisin, and fig. Flavor is loaded with tons of depth. Deep caramel and honey glaze, with dark fruits but the alcohol presence is too overwelmng and unbalanced.
