750ml bottle, pours in a rochefort trappist glass, dark amber-copper color, with a frothy thick creamy beige head, leaving laces, sweet grainy toasted, caramelized malt, cookie dough nose, with some fruity esters of dried raisins, figs, dates. with a Graham’s cookie, sponge toffee, crunchie bar aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet toasty, caramel, biscuity malt character, with a cookie dough, nice toffeeish, crème brulée, graham’s cookie accent, with some dark dried fruity notes of raisins, figs, dates, plums with a hint of dark candi sugar, molasses, and nutmeg spiciness, within a warmth mouthfeel. leading towards a warming, malty, fruity, chocolatey finish.

Reviewed 1/21/2009 (bottle batch#68235): Pours a huge creamy tan colored head, diminishing, and a dark ruby red color body. Strong dark fruity, flowery aroma, fig and a touch of alcohol. Very sweet nd floral, very Belgiany. Creamy mouthfeel, flowery taste. Lightly sweet, not sickly. Dark fruit is not as pronounced, sweet aftertaste, some hotness. Dark fruit and fig taste, apple too.

750 bottle. Dark brown, filtered. Small white head. Nose is raisiny, figs, malts. Taste comes off malty, sweet, a bit sugary. Full bodied, a bit spicy with a nice alcohol burn at the end. Well done.

750 ml. batch S8508, thanks to General Gao. Darkish ruby-copper with a lasting quarter-inch of cream. Mild aroma of toffee, tart berry and light wood. Flavor is already-chewed bubblegum and lightly sour apple-cherry, turning to prunes and harshish vinous alcohol in the middle, then to an oak-cork finish. Medium-full body is a bit frothy and sticky, with some alcohol dryness and warming.

Bottle from theisti, shared at SL. The pour was orangey amber, plenty of carbonation and head, lacing mediocre. The aroma was dried light fruits, some bread, caramel. The flavor lacked the dark fruit depth I like in a quad, was like an imperial blonde doppelbock more than anything Belgian - spices? Flavors of bread, light fruits (white rasins most prominent?), candy sweet, caramel, and some alcohol heat. The mouthfeel as on target for the style, big, somewhat sticky finish. Mediocre at best for a Quad, and when I have to put down this much alcohol, I want more for my experience. Tim, thanks for the opportunity on this one, appreciate it!

This rating is for the "Manimal" version which was shared by JB at Indra’s Strong Ale tasting, thanks a lot, very cool of you. I believe that makes it somewhere between 2-3 years old and it came in a super cool 750mL bottle. I think by this point theisti had broken my snifter and I moved onto the 2nd generation thick, tall Blvd Chalice (again thank you JB). Aroma has some alcohol coming through as well as a pretty authentic Belgian black bread raisin yeastiness. Strong and sweet, yet lightly balanced. Taste is showing some hint of age with a lighter thinner flavor from those aspects in the nose. But otherwise a very good Quad, with all the requisite aspects. Seems to have aged well enough but not much longer. I will get a fresh bottle of the 6th glass Quad soon and add to this rating. 8/4/7/3/16

750mL bottle stamped 608025, which means bottled on January 25, 2008 so making it about 1.5 years old. Aged in a fridge for about a year and then my closet for 6 months. Clear dark amber, small head. Aroma is a thick alcoholic, so thick prune and sweet Belgian aspects. Alcoholic, barky, earthiness in there as well. This comes off as alcoholic Belgian tea. Flavor is sweet, thick dark Belgian yeastiness with sugar alcohol all mixed in there. A lot of stuff going on, plumminess but just large and with the alcohol not so in charge. Its good but still damn hot for me. 7/3/7/3/15

A well made quad. Lots of fruit (raisin and plum), toffee, caramel malt, and some spice. Interesting, even a little bit of coffee. I like it.

Below average quad. Too fruity and foamy. Coffee note was interesting but has overdone molasses and spice flavors. Kind of grainy.
