Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Smells terrific. Very fruity nose, like red wine, Scotch and red currant, dark fruit. Dark brown beer with red highlights, thick beige head doesn’t last long. Tastes too sweet, reminiscent of cotton candy, with bitterness and alcohol striking their own notes... a cacaphony, very little harmony here. Lively and thin, warming, boozy aftertaste. I love Boulevard but this one doesn’t hold a candle, yet. From 75 cL, poured into Trappist chalice.

Brought this to a friends Christmas Party, and they ( non-beer folks) called it the Sixth Death...the ABV snuck up on them! ;-) A: Nice, amber, great big head. Wonderful lace windows. S: Malty, boozy, sweet. T: See above, plus, dark fruits-figs, prunes, sweet cherry, roasted malts. Booze. M: Smooth and creamy for a high ABV beer. High carbonation was good, not offensive at all. D: Well, damned drinkable for the first glass, If I had the Sixth, well, I think I’d fall over in a happy coma. Keep up the great work with the Smokestack beers, I love them

750 ml bottle. Decent malty dark fruit aromas off this brown ale with light head. Flavors followed suit with some molasses and raisin. Touches of alcohol in the finish. Pretty tasty.

25 oz bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with a nice tight bubbled beige head that had nice retention. Deep complex malt nose with figs, raisins, candi sugar, toffee, and minimal to no alcohol. Heavy and thick flavor with tons of residual sugars. Very alcoholic but not hot really. Some fig and toffee, lots of candi sugar, and some peppery alcohol on the finish. Mouthfeel is full, thick, and way too sticky for my tastes. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, I guess that this was decent, but it really didn’t inspire me at all.

750mL bottle courtesy of mmtmatrix poured into a goblet. Pours a hazy amber brown with a big off-white head with tons of carbonation (which Ive gotten in all the Smokestack beers) which causes the head to last forever and leaves good lacing. The aroma is very sweet with candi sugar, Belgian yeast and tons of dark fruits dominating - plums and raisins especially. There is an alcohol burn in the nose as well. Big sweet caramel malts dominate the taste with tons of candi sugar and a yeasty bubble-gum flavor as well. The dark fruits are there but not quite as big as in the aroma. Alcohol definitely makes its presence felt in the finish with a major warming effect. The mouthfeel is very highly carbonated, too much for my liking, and a medium bodied for the style. This is a less heavy version of a quad but that lends to very high drinkability for the style and I made it through the bottle much easier than I should for a beer this big. Be very careful, because I wasnt...

note: my first quadrupel ale :: pours like syrup, looks opaque brown with a touch of red. totally champagne carbonation. The flavor is all molasses, butterscotch, apples and prune. Very Sweet - This is really not what I want my beer to be - ick

A cloudy brew with a substantial head and imposing dark brown color. Aromas are toasty, but there is some floral alcohol and plenty of esters as well. Too many flavors piled on the beer to enumerate. The effect is a little confused, but makes for a distinctive sip. A bottle of this is a heavy lift for the palate. Despite all of the complexities, a good beer to sip.

HUGE head that was actually a pain in the ass to pour. Flavor was weird. Actually tasted like butter and was way to sweet. Didnt hate it but one and done.
