Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

A hazy dark amber with a thick big bubbled light moka head. Torrefied malts in aroma, caramel toffee, a bit of wild herbs. In mouth, a sweet caramel with coriander, Curacao, notes of vanilla. A bit of alcohol in finale. Tasted at Mondiale 2008, June 1 2008.

damn fine helthy thick head ... lots of dark fruits, rum, heat, warm grape juice flavours ... quite a bold beer .. hugely sweet, with just a touch of bitterness ... pours a tan murky autumn colour .. batch 68235 ... to muddled to be great .. to simple to be a classic... on the road but a detour....

Very nice color. Great head... smells fresh brewed! Very frothy head... my gosh. Tamely sweet, bitter, not astringent as it could be, fruity, sour... hint of raisin. Pretty darned good recipe. Bright palate. Not bad for a Missouri Quad!!! Impressive, actually.

Lighter amber/orange pour with a tall white head. Much lighter then I was expecting. Lots of fruit sweetness. Citrus, apricots, dry sweetness of fig. Dry finish with a nice carbonation to it that brought out a bit of spiciness.

The pour was dark brown with auburn highlights. A compact off-white head produced some nice lacing. The aroma was malt, raisin, figs and some unchecked alcohol. The flavor was slightly smoky, malt, raisin and alcohol. The mouthfeel was average, carbonation was almost too tight.
