Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Bottle: Pour is deep hazy amber with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is deep sweet malt with yeast and light caramel. Flavor is smooth with light caramel, raisins, brown sugar, light alcohol, and a hint of hops towards the end. Fairly well blended brew. Pretty fruity and smooth. Alcohol is well hidden.

Pours very dark and frothy. Aroma: is roasty with a cereal background and a hint of citrus. Appearance: is very frothy and sparkling. Color is a rich and thick reddish brown. Flavor: is medium bitterness, almost Lager like. Palate:full body and fizzy. Overall Impression: Very solid Quadruple. Impressed by the attention to detail the people at Boulevard Brewing Company put into this beer. Right in line with our European brethren.

Pours dark copper with a thick tan head. Brown sugar, yeast, dark candied fruits, and malt in the nose. Boozy glaze over all the flavors. Raisins, dates, molasses, vanilla, and caramel blend with the spice to form a heavy Belgian ale. This would do well as a winter brew.

Courtesy theisti. Copper color, caramel nose. Fairly sweet with a light raisiny fruitiness, touches of darker fruits are indistinct. Well rounded, but strong, with hints of spice.

750ml bottle from Bev’s for Less. Pours a cloudy dark amber/ ruby color with a fizzing light beige head. Nose was sweet with candied dark fruits, maple and brown sugar with some spice. Flavor was also sweet with caramel and nutmeg spice. A light hint of booze was picked up in the finish.

Courtesy TheCheeseMan. The pour yields a hazy, burnt orange to sienna brown colored body. A wispy film and thin, bubbly edge leaves obtuse, foamy lace behind. Aromas are sweet and boozy up front, with notes of sugary caramel, rum soaked figs, and dark, sweet raisons. Vanilla lends a smoothing quality, while hints of earthy spice impart a savory character. Flavors continue the theme, caramel and dark, sweet fruits in the fore, followed by balancing earthy spice and mild hops in the aft. Sugary on the palate up front, the light carbonation leads into a semi-dry, alcoholic finish. This is a decent brew, but ultimately a bit too sugary and hot for my tastes.
