Nose is dark fruit, yeast, and alcohol. Ok, more dark fruit. Flavor is pretty much the same and is pretty darned good! Throw in some caramel and toffee for good measure. Feel is nice and zesty. Delicious! KAggie97 (2482), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Bottle at Anchor, Wichita. Pours a deep, thick amber with a quick-rising head that leaves a nice lacing around the tulip glass. Aromas of sweet plumb and slight sugar swirl around in the nose and linger throughout the duration of drinking this beer. A blend of rich plumb and molasses swirls on the taste buds and tickles each one with a light prick of yeasty bread. Thick and full mouthfeel. Satisfying beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Creates a giant formation of fluffy head while the ale is a dim mahogany color with sediment. In the aroma I detect a sugary sweet malt with the fondest hints of cocoa chocolate, molasses and mixed nuts. The flavor is subtle and warm with minor tastings of molasses syrup and spiced Belgian yeast but overall is mild and hides a strong alcohol content very well. after4ever (2837), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours a heavily hazed dark amber with bright caramel highlights. Thick, moussy tan head that surges wildly and then settles back to nothing at all after a few minutes. Huge forward brown sugar & molasses nose, combined with some sharp sugary tree fruit notes. Mild body a bit on the short side of medium. Firm carb. Dark tree fruit, brown sugar, molasses, and pie spice on the mid-palate. Mild brown sugar finish. Tasty stuff. Definitely a success. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2008 750mL bottle. Poured a hazy amber color with a one finger, quickly dissipating head. Aroma is sweet with dark fruit and malt. Flavor has plums, raisins and malt, with a slight spiciness as well. Full bodied beer with almost too much carbonation. Most beers of this type don’t have quite this much carbonation. Good beer, but not great. doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2008 750ml bottle. Cork pops with authority, pours clearish, caramelly brown with a huge, offwhite head. Ok retention. Smells deep and very sweet malty, raisins and a little bit of spice. Tastes spicy malty with some pepper and some raisin sweetness. A good dose of alcohol as well. Medium body, vibrant carbonation. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA

A soft pour produces an initial four-finger thick head that fills my 25cl tulip glass and then proceeds to mushroom up two fingers past the rim of my glass and slightly overflow, but only just barely. The head is a light tan color with a densely packed head. The beer is an amber color that is on the light side from your average Quad and shows a brilliantly clear, cranberry-orange stained, dark copper color when held up to the light. Spicy aromas of woody pepper and mature ginger are almost immediately joined by tart notes of tamarind, sour plum and a lactic like note. I expected a lot more concentrated, rich malt notes here, but instead this seems to have been replaced by this light, but substantial tartness.
Lightly sweet flavors are offset towards the finish by an herbal sage like note that is light but fairly distinct. The sweetness tastes of and accentuates flavors of plums, a filtered tamarind note and a light raisin note. The beer finishes with a warming alcohol note that at times can be overly hot with higher alcohols; these notes accentuate a spicy finish that has a peppery bite as well as a hint of plastic-like phenolics and a light tongue numbing clove note. Not nearly as tart as the aroma suggested, which is as I suspected for some reason, but it still does have a touch of tartness that is likely just contributed by the yeast strain used. This is actually quite dry for a Quad (this also likely accentuates the perceived tartness), with a medium body that is on the light side for a Quad.
A second pour easily produces just as much of a voluminous head. As the beer has warmed the aroma has picked up a finish that has a lot more toasted malt aromatics to it; biscuit like with a nice crushed grain character. This is a pretty good beer, the only real flaw is that it can get awfully hot in the finish, but this is only at times so doesn’t kill the beer.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a hazy mahogany with an aggressive light tan head. Woodsy nose with a touch of pear and fig. Medium body. Nice blend of complex fruit with a slight sweetness followed by a crisp dry slightly hot finish. Carbonation seems a tad bit high but overall very drinkable.
