Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours auburn with tall chunky manila head that lasts a while but finally fades to a much thinner layer to leave some lacing. Aroma is raisins, prunes, sweet pickles, caramel, pungent vanilla, sweet anise coockies and cloves, a good amount of alcohol in the nose as well. Flavor is fruit cake, brown sugar, caramel, cloves, licorice. A little less yeasty than the other quads I’ve had but the great malt complexities are there, mouthfeel is a little thinnner too.

Pours a rusty reddish brown with a fluffy off-white head that lasts forever. Looks better than lots of other US Quads, with tons of bubbles crawling up the glass and bubbly head. Aroma of pears, raisin, brown sugar, cinnemon, vanilla, wheat, light clove, light banana, and perhaps some bread dough. Starts initially with a phenolic fruity sensation, but tastes predominantly malty. Flavors of brown sugar, maple, caramel, pears, cloves, light banana, and a bit of booze. Flavors come together well. Finishes with cinnemon spice and clove, fading to toasted sweetened bread aftertaste. Medium bodied, high carbonation that does the classic Belgian quads justice, and creamy enough. Sweet, but not sticky. Pretty balanced in all elements to me; I can see why others say "age it" but it’s not like it suffers from freshness now. Good stuff, I love the cinnemon finish.

750 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma was strong with raisins, dates, prunes, cola and a touch of alcohol. The taste was similar to the aroma with the sweet dark fruits dominating and a bit of alcohol showing. The mouthfeel was smooth but no creamy and the carbonation came across as harsh at times. The finish was medium in duration with lingering dark fruits. Overall: This one tasted a bit young and underdeveloped, I should sock a bottle away for about six months and re-rate.

Reddish brown colors with a nice pungent aroma. Flavors are of strong apple cider, dried fruits, roasted malt, yeast, and caramel. Bubbly and medium palate. Well balanced and tasty. Alcohol is lightly noticable but well integrated.

Bottle from Windy City. Deep amber in color. Looks well carbonated. Good sized beige head. Dark fruit aroma with a bit of yeast and spices. Some alcohol. Prickly mouthfeel. Spicy dark fruit flavors dominate. A little alcohol in the finish.

Batch 68081. Pours with a huge, creamy, off-white head that leaves good lacing and has great retention. Hazy deep amber body (too light in color for the style). Aroma of figs, brandy, cinnamon, black cherry and a slight sour note. Taste is very rich with strong brandy, light spices, and dark fruits everywhere. Mouthfeel is syrupy with light, natural bubbles. Not completely to style.

bottle. A very nice quad. Smooth, drinkable with a long finish. Similar to iron hill quad. Very nice. Big, fluffy head.
