Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Brewed in the USA.... Courtesy of AFI96, thanks Waylo. Pours a brown amber color with a fuzzy off white head. Aroma of spices, caramel and dark fruit. Taste was also of dark fruit, there was also some butterscotch, caramel flavors and alcohol. Mouthfeel was medium in body with malty finish. This one is a sipper !!!!

I took this bottle to the Beer Advocate - Brass Rail tasting last night. Poured clear brown with a small golden head. The smell was raisins, prunes, and spicy Belgian yeast. The flavor had a ton of butterscotch with some underlying pit fruit. It was very boozy and sweet. I don’t think I could have drank more than the few ounces that I did.

We really enjoyed this quad especially since it was paired with a few perfect dishes. The light body and complexity of dark fruits, varying degrees of caramel and spice paired incredibly well with a platter of roasted marrow bones, seared foie gras, and believe it or not, Poutine with demi-glace and white truffle oil. This is a beautfiul and very food friendly high gravity beer. Very nice alcohol warming without being hot. Worth a sip or five.

Purchase a single 750 ml bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in Shorewood, MN. Pours a semi-hazy cola brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of dark fruity caramel malt, some raisins, figs, dark pitted fruit and a touch of yeast. Taste is smooth, creamy, medium bodied, with some carbonation and flavors of dark roasted malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, and a touch of raisins. Finish is slightly metallic from the high alcohol with a dark fruit and yeast aftertaste.

Pours a large head with a hazy, deep brown/orange liquid. Nose is sweet molasses and ripe fruit. Flavor of sweet malt and fruit open and run through the middle acts with a slightly dry grain denouement. The second taste is dominated in the middle acts by a mild yeast flavor in the backing chorus. The finish is slightly astringent (I’m not sure what to make of that) which keeps the sweetness just in check. I’m liking this beer just fine. It can come over to my house any time.

Batch 69121. Pours a mostly clear, effervescent, auburn color with an average, fizzy, creamy, beige head which leaves a very thin, lasting layer and minimal lace. Nose is nice but not great; very perfumey from the start, brown sugar and light vanilla beans, dried apricots, clove, faint banana, and some cinnamon. Flavor is similar with some sweetness to begin of dried apricots, brown sugar, vanilla, and clove but quickly dries and leaves some cinnamon, herbs, and perfume. Palate is okay with a moderate body, velvety/lightly syrupy mouthfeel, a light dryness, and soft to lively carbonation. Finishes lightly dry with spicy cinnamon, golden raisins, some warmth, herbs, and the sweetness all but disappearing. It was good but not really my style of Quad; I really like the sweet ones with lots of fruit. The spicy cinnamon was a nice touch but the perfume was a bit much. Quite a drinkable quad but not necessarily what I looking for. A brewery I am beginning to like but not one of favorites from them.
