Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Amber in color with a big beige head. Sweet smells of caramel, fruits in particular apricot, and toffee. Taste is the same as the smells. You can definetly feel the alcohol. Fuller bodied. Gets dryer at the bottom of glass.

Objectively speaking: An honourable attempt at a quadruple that did not feel as successful as their Saison.
I like: Appealing toasty/nutty/vanilla nose. Controlled alcohol level. Convincing mouthfeel.
I dislike: A bit one-dimensional for a quad. Its toasty, bready, caramelly palate quickly becomes dry and the fruity depth is not very developed. Minimal head.

2008-05-31. Brown body, modest creamy beige head. Sweet sugary malt in the aroma, good amount of alcohol presence. (7+) Sweet up front in the flavour, brown sugars, caramel turns tangy in the finish. (8+) Smooth medium palate. (3+) Touch simple and raw in places but I really enjoyed this one. (Rating #1734)

Pour is dirty brown orange with a creamy off white head, long lasting. Very strong aroma of heavy vanilla, brown sugar, rich caramel toffee, and dark fruits. Very aromatic. I enjoyed the flavor of this. I haven’t put this up against other quads, but I have a gut feeling it would hold its own. Alcohol is noticable, but it isn’t over the top. Good stuff and IMO underrated within the style.

This beer pours a cloudy amber with a large white head. the aromas are a little more hoppy than I would’ve expected. The flavor is not though. This is weak for a quad/abt but it was pleasant. I liked it ok, but it could’ve been so much more! Cheers!

Pour is a dark brown with a very large tan head. Aroma is nice with some caramel, spice and a bit of earthyness. Flavor is very sweet with some rye bread and candi sugar. Then the eye watering alcohol hits you. It does not leave a burn but you deffinatly know its there. Just an ok quad and some age would do it wonders. All of the smokestack beers were very good but this is probably the one i liked the least.
