Fairly subtle aroma of dark cherries/fruit and honey. Flavor is very tasty with carmel, dark fruit, brown sugar and apple with a bit more booze than I expected even with the high abv. I think this one would definitely benefit from some time in the cellar. Nice quad. ericandersnavy (1063), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2009 [bottle] Aroma is moderately malty with some spices thrown in there, head was moderate and long lasting brown. Hazy beer that is a dark amber. The aftertaste is a little alcoholic, but the 10.5% ABV is the reason for that. All in all, this is a good beer that is a little fizzy and alcoholic. presario (2983), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Half bottle. St. Bernardus glass is half dark beer and half long lasting dark head. Aroma of dark malt, light yeast and a warm spice. Flavour is everything from the scent and hints of licorice and cinamon. Smooth and tasty. Fuller of body and flavour than Belgian masters perhaps partialy because this one is so fresh compared to aged bottles from Belgium. boFNjackson (1299), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2009 Bottle... Poured amber with a tan head. Acidic, acetone aroma. Syrupy, mildly carbonated palate. Very sweet base while an herbal character takes over with favors of malts and yeast esters. A little vanilla-oak and booze before the finish. planky84 (123), , Greater London, England

Big head which dissipates gradually Aromas of brown sugar, raisins, toffee, caramel, dark fruits. Flavours of calvados apples, licorice, pears, roasted malts. Long malty, slight bitter finish. Leaves quite an impression on the throat! CheersMate1 (794), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 11, 2009 750 ml. bottle picked up at QFC. Dark caramel brown color. Opaque, if not, very translucent. Nice fluffy head that fades away rather quickly, but still a lovely looking abt. Not a heavy fruit aroma, but a somewhat pungent dark fruit aroma. I can smell the yeast if I really snort this stuff! A somewhat nuanced aroma. Dark fruit flavor, but mild. Some yeast, but this beer seems a bit reserved. The fruits stick around and hit your tastebuds, but this beer isn’t as BIG as some of the other abts. This beer has the abv, but seems a bit too reserved. Smooth palate, but again, seems a little held back. TBone (6783), Pori, Finland

Deep amber, small beige head. Fruity, almost cherry-like aroma. Very alcoholic. Crisp carbonation. Some earthy notes, prunes, cherry, plum. Has potential, but is way too sweet. Probably has potential after ageing of it a bit.
