Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

75cl bottle from GBBF 2009. Pours a deep, dark brown. Big head which dissipates gradually Aromas of brown sugar, raisins, toffee, caramel, dark fruits. Flavours of calvados apples, licorice, pears, roasted malts. Long malty, slight bitter finish. Leaves quite an impression on the throat!

750 ml. bottle picked up at QFC. Dark caramel brown color. Opaque, if not, very translucent. Nice fluffy head that fades away rather quickly, but still a lovely looking abt. Not a heavy fruit aroma, but a somewhat pungent dark fruit aroma. I can smell the yeast if I really snort this stuff! A somewhat nuanced aroma. Dark fruit flavor, but mild. Some yeast, but this beer seems a bit reserved. The fruits stick around and hit your tastebuds, but this beer isn’t as BIG as some of the other abts. This beer has the abv, but seems a bit too reserved. Smooth palate, but again, seems a little held back.

Bottled (at Chriso, batch #68312). Deep amber, small beige head. Fruity, almost cherry-like aroma. Very alcoholic. Crisp carbonation. Some earthy notes, prunes, cherry, plum. Has potential, but is way too sweet. Probably has potential after ageing of it a bit.

Bottled. Rubyish amber colour, big foamy/creamy beige head. Aroma is fruits, some alcohol, mild glueish notes, some earth and mild notes of apricot. Flavour is lots of caramel malts, liquorice, quite strong alcohol (not disturbing though). Mild spices and yeast as well. A rather pleasantly balanced brew.

2008 Bottle - Pours a dk amber with a thick tan head...aroma is sweet malty fruit, rasin and plum, a bit of rocket fuel and some spice, but is covered up pretty well by the sticky malt...flavour is similar, sweet and dark, molassas, apple, pear...finish is straight nail polish remover...no integration of the burn at all, aroma and flavour are quite nice and simple, but that disjointed finish fucks this beer...and it isn’t a "pleasantly warming finish" or anything like that but rather urban fucking warfare on you mouth and sinuses...

750mL bottle poured into an Abbey glass. Pretty hot and astringent... Maybe would be better if sat on for a year or so. Otherwise it’s very sticky, sweet, and tastes like dark esters.

75 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA via Madison. Deep amber with some lighter lace, head dissipates quickly. Plumb and paint aroma with some apricot and cloves. Warm first sip, slight alcohol burn, apricot and raisin flavor with a mellow sweet finish. Very nice.

Pours a deep brown, good amount of tannish head with maybe even a tint of orange to it. Aroma - and taste - of candy sugars, bananas, figs. Alcohol has a bit of a bite to it but the wonderful sweet flavors hold their own against it. Great stuff.
