Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Hazy light brown with a loose auburn head. Banana, raisin, cocoa and tart apple aroma. Sweet, full bodied and well carbonated, making for a rich palate. Fruity malt flavor with plum and pomegranate. Quite nice.

Bottle. Sweet cherry/apple juice and toffee malt aroma. Cloudy amber color with minimal head. Sweet apple, raisin and barley malt flavor. Acidic with moderate carbonation. Very nice taste.

Bottle:   Heavy caramel, slight ruby, large frothy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Alcohol dominates, pale dark pitted fruit, some biscuit, even a little musty barnish aspect.   Seems like a cross between a Quad and a Triple.   Very warming, note as alcoholic as I would have thought.   Not all that Quad like.   More of a Belgian Strong, dark pitted fruit is there but subtle.   Gives away to a very malty alcoholic flavor.   Seems a little bready.   Yeah, half Tripel half Quad.   Really, its just missing the heaviness on the fruit side for a quad.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Mild spiciness to finish.   Really, not much of a Quad.   Enjoyable, but a little off the mark.   Wouldn’t hesitate to have again, just hard to classify this one.   Quad meets Tripel I suppose.

Aroma is potent and a little intimidating, also slightly sour. Color is dark and milky, head is big and tan. Palate is smooth and very full, coating my tongue, tips and teeth. Flavor is alcohol, roasted, sweet, peppery (no real sourness). Very enjoyable.

750 from goethe. Nose is pleasant raisins and sugary yeast. HInts of booziness. Flavor is more of the yeasty raisin intiially, a little molasses and plums later on. FInish is pretty hot when cold. As it warms, everything mellows out a little bit. Good, not super-complex. Dangerously drinkable for the style (and for my head).

Bottle from Cavie. Medium brown pour with tons of off-white head. Aroma is fruit, yeast, and malt. Tastes like alcohol and malts with a few smoke notes.

Hazy red pour with lots of yeasty sediment. Very boozy smell. Ripened fruit nose. Taste is alcohol, plastic, ripe fruit, with some spice. Old raisin taste also. Aftertaste has a feeling of band-aid but without the flavor. Improves greatly as it warms.
