"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet maty with notes of over ripe fruits and spices as well as lighter notes of yeast. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of malt, caramel, spices, and yeast - especially cloves. Thanks Storm for sharing.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Storm. Pours a slightly hazy, orangey brown with a rough, bubbly, off-white head that fades rather fast. Fat aroma of caramel - burned caramel - and some yeast. Quite full-bodied with sweetish, burned caramel and lots of fruit - overripe fruit in particular. Rather warming alcohol finish. Starts rather timid but really grows on your palate. 110108

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy brown with a reddish hue. Dense white head. Light spiced and light yeasty aroma. Flavour is mild malty, slight yeasty and spiced. Finish is spiced and holds a nice acidity to the sweet ad spiced flavours. Nice.

Bottle 75cl.
Clear medium to dark orange amber color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, fruity - berry, prune, moderate to heavy hoppy, moderate to heavy alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, alcohol burn and warm. IMO to young. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20090805]

Bottled. Rubyish amber colour, big foamy/creamy beige head. Aroma is fruits, some alcohol, mild glueish notes, some earth and mild notes of apricot. Flavour is lots of caramel malts, liquorice, quite strong alcohol (not disturbing though). Mild spices and yeast as well. A rather pleasantly balanced brew.
