| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Aroma is potent and a little intimidating, also slightly sour. Color is dark and milky, head is big and tan. Palate is smooth and very full, coating my tongue, tips and teeth. Flavor is alcohol, roasted, sweet, peppery (no real sourness). Very enjoyable. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2009 750 from goethe. Nose is pleasant raisins and sugary yeast. HInts of booziness. Flavor is more of the yeasty raisin intiially, a little molasses and plums later on. FInish is pretty hot when cold. As it warms, everything mellows out a little bit. Good, not super-complex. Dangerously drinkable for the style (and for my head). Fratto (740), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Hazy red pour with lots of yeasty sediment. Very boozy smell. Ripened fruit nose. Taste is alcohol, plastic, ripe fruit, with some spice. Old raisin taste also. Aftertaste has a feeling of band-aid but without the flavor. Improves greatly as it warms. coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Pours a deep, dark amber with ruby highlights. Three-finger head of creamy tan colored foam. Great retention. Spotty lacing.
Big, dark fruit notes. Figs and dark cherries mostly, with a touch of raisin. Mild earthiness. Mild hint of booziness. Caramel malt notes. Smells sweet and spicey, overall.
Caramel malts out in front. Black cherries and raisins. Hints of figs. Touch of ginger and spices. Very slight hint of booziness. Candy sugars and hints of bananas.
In the mouth, it’s actually a little bit thin, for the style, IMO. Nails the creaminess just right, though. Would benefit greatly from a heftier body.
For a drinkable, moderately priced american Quad, you’d have a hard time beating this one. Sure, you can go to the Belgian rack and get a better representation of the style. You’ll also pay a little extra for it, though.
Despite it’s 10.5% ABV, this is pretty darn drinkable. Just don’t drink too many, too quick, as they will hammer you.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Bottle: Pours a muddy brown with a minimal tan head. Nose has notes of fig, burnt caramel, berries, vanilla and some brown sugar...there is an odd sourness in the nose as it warms. Crisp carbonation and mouth feel...flavors consist of caramel malt, dark fruits and a dry woodsiness on the back end. Good brew.
