Commercial Description:

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes. Look closely now: is it two jesters on the label, or a single beautiful glass of beer?

Pop the cap or should I say the cork the jokers are out to play and the joke is on your friends who buy Bud products. I can not stop laughing at the irony two jokers and double wit, was the name intentional or a random misnomer, either way on to the beer!!! Lordy mercy at the carbonation on this! The cork was flying about the room like a missle fired by the evil Dubya at a middle eastern dicator. The foam was everywhere like a rabid dog that had to be put down. Don’t cry for old Yella cause he will live peacefully in my glass then on to my belly and it will go to the urine tract. As my nose wanders about the glass I smell orchard fields of delight, like I am high and living in Florida. Oh imagine being on shrooms in the citrus fields. Oooooh my! A nice wake up call of ethanol radiates from the citrus fields of pleasure. Oh my how I dance gay-ly about! As the late 90s pop group proclaimed SPICE UP YOUR LIFE. By golly Scary Spice was so right. I am dancing with gingerbread men and women here! I just stole a button from one, teehee do not tell! I have not even sampled the beer yet I am still in a plethora of orgasmic joy! The foam has settled now hits my humble lips! Ooooh snap ya’ll the citrus burst is that of an 80s Starburst commercial. I am carried away by a fruit explosion! I am as orange an Oompa Loompa and as yellow and sour as a drunken dwarf. Oh my friends the fun does not stop there oh no sir! The spice rack is on attack. A sharp coriander sword through my tongue has just taken place. With a nice warming finish. Like reading a book by an unknown author and sitting by the fire. Oh my what a marvelous job the folks in the Show Me state have done. Well they surely did Show Me how to take a simple belgian summer bier and make it a masterpiece and make my nose just a little bit more red by evening end. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys life, or even enjoys not dying. I’m still alive! And befriending my two new joker friends!

Golden cloudy color, strong head. Citrus aroma. Tangy taste, very well balanced. Not mouth-puckering, but rather mouth watering. Palate kind of sticky. I do not have much experience with double wits, but this beer was very enjoyable. Light bodied, with much character.

750 ml bottle thanks to my brother for bringing from MO. Pours hazy glowing orange with a huuuge fluffy white head. Aroma is very nice, really spicy, very Belgian. Lots of coriander and orange peel, clove is almost biting. A bit perfumey but not too bad, really complex and the wheat is definitely there. Flavor starts out very spicy, almost overwhelmingly so. Quickly gets balanced out by the fruitiness which adds some sweet layering along with some candy tartness. Finishes with that light tartness and a little dry but with an easing bitterness. Medium body and a soft but tingling carbonation. Very nice wit, tasty and refreshing with no alcohol burn.

Corked bottle. Coriander, clove, orange, and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy orange-yellow color with minimal head. Sweet coriander/cinnamon, orange and wheat malt flavor - very nicely blended. Very tasty - an excellent witbier.

Light orange coloring. Citrus elements on the nose. Some grain but very little. Tastes of tart lemon and sour grain. Finishes less sour than the flavor. Dealable.

Reviewed 9/23/2009 (bottle batch#2-2009): Pours a huge whitish head, extremely quickly diminishing. I’ve never seen a head form and disappear so quickly. Somewhat opaque body, light orange cloudy in color. Sweet spicy aroma, very floral, reminiscent of an Abbey Triple. Maybe coriander. Very fruity, light fruit like white grapes, pears. Not an overly strong aroma, might be related to the disappearing head. Sweet taste, orange peel, maybe clove. Not a strong taste. Diminishing aftertaste. Though a sweet spiciness lingers. Very mild tasting, almost bland. Billed as a double wit I expected more flavor. But it’s not bad, just not as flavorful as I was expecting.

Corked and Caged 750ml my folks got for me at Goody Goody in Dallas. This was good but not as good as Iron Hill’s version of a Double Wit. Pours cloudy ornage with a nice big tan head. Nose is sweet and quite appealing. Taste is light sweeet and tasty, all in all pretty nice.
