Very active fizzy white head that dissipates rather quickly. Sweet wheat taste with light fruit notes as well. Apple, pear, apricots maybe. Light grain taste with some lemon and apple. Very soft carbonation. Very mild aftertaste and quite light on the hops. Slighly chalky/unfiltered feel. Very pleasant and drinkable. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Bottled: Hazy golden hue (get that yeast from the bottle!) with a fizzy and fading head and little lace. One of my knocks against this beer has been it’s lack of head retention unlike many classic hefeweizens. The aroma is quite estery with a lot of lemon yeast notes and a noticeable wheaty nose. Not any banana or spice however, hence why it’s an American Wheat despite it’s unflitered nature...back to the rating, the taste starts twangy and citric, very similiar to the very lemony Upland Wheat Ale but is more subdued. The finish does display some nice wheaty tones. This beer is need of some clove or cardamom. The feel is watery and lively, refreshing enough I guess. What happened to this brew? I had it quite a bit when I lived in Nebraska and liked it then. Now it it watery and lacks depth. After reading other comments, I presume a receipe change was done, for the worse. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2005 2004 bottle compliments of csbosox! Thick, hazy, banana yellow pour with a small white head. Smells musty/dusty and lightly sweaty, but has notes of lemon, sour yeast and dry wheat tones. Very dry, lightly sour nose overall that does not hint at much to come. Fortunately, the flavor is much better than the nose would suggest, showcasing a wonderfully smooth, lightly bubbly mouthfeel, a medium-light body and little to no wateriness. Light honey and almonds, smooth grainy wheat tones, lemon-like hops flavors and a nutty, yeasty finish. It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed an American Wheat (gumbalhead being the last) and this was a pleasant surprise. Nothing hugely complex or stunningly flavorful, but well-done for what it is. movolsfan (11), Parkville, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2005 This is one of my favorites. And, to all of you who guessed this is refreshing on a hot summer day here in KC, you are right. While I still like this beer, the last couple of years it tastes a little watered down. I think they’ve changed something with the recipe or the barley they use. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Have had in bottle and draft. Draft is a bit better, but overall a nonexciting wheat beer. Slightly cloudy, good wheat aroma. Flavor is thin. I guess it would be good for drinking on a hot KC summer day. 1FastSTi (2579), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 2, 2005 Poured to a golden hue that was slightly cloudy and had a quickly dissapating head. The aroma was reminiscent of wheat, clove, and flowers. Was strong at first then dissapated very quickly. It was disappointing that the aroma didn’t last more than a minute. The palate needs more carbonation. It was light and not sticky. Unfortunately, was mostly like water. The flavor was a bit weak. Tasted like wheat and clove. Not bad tasting, but not exciting. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Pleasant crisp lemony aroma and some wheat tang. Good cloudy appearance but little head. Taste simple and straight-forward wheat tang, no esters but very fresh and bright tasting. Refreshing but simple.
