Commercial Description:
Boulevard's summer seasonal was introduced in June of 2000. Our interpretation of a classic Belgian witbier, ZÔN (Flemish for "Sun") combines the subtle flavors of coriander and orange peel with other traditional ingredients to create a delightful, refreshing summertime brew.

Yet another beer that I wasn’t able to take good notes about. There is only going to be a couple more before I have the notes back - sorry.

Pours a cloudy, off-golden color, with a very minimal, quickly dissipating foam. Just a hint of the yeasty taste often found in this style. Actually, it seems to be fairly light on everything typical to this style, the flavor is nice but there’s just not a lot of it. Decent but unmemorable. Best & refreshing when served very cold on a hot summer day.

Short 12oz twist-off bottle. Hazy bright light yellow color, white head. Aroma of citrus, clove, and coriander. Flavor of banana fruitiness. Light coriander character reminds me of Juicy Fruit Gum. Very fizzy carbonation. Distant spice and a touch of clove flavor in the finish. A good beer for Summer. Finishes with a distant flavor of Pine Sôl. A nice touch of Frasier Fur.

Tasted at Beer Dabbler Event in St. Paul. This beer had a strange, soapy aroma, but not unpleasant. It also had a surprising Russian tea spice flavor that I enjoyed.

Pours a thin yellow haze with a quickly dissipating head. The nose is the light yeast and fruit flavor of the style. The slight sweetness balances nicely with the citrisy astringency. Mouth feel is a little rough, but not overly so. This is the first of this beer that I have had in a couple of years. The first one I had was at the Royal’s stadium during a late summer evening game. The setting gave that first glass a bit of boost that the beer probably doesn’t deserve, and I just discovered that the single that I bought unrefrigerated at France 44 for rating is two months out of date. I will give this one a 2.9 with an asterisk and the promise that I will come back and re-rate next summer when there is some fresh stock on the shelf.

A golden yellow liquid that looks like sunshine in a glass. Slightly hazy. One finger foamy white head that dissolves to nothing, quickly. Coriander. Tangy wheat notes. Slight hint of orange and cloves. Wheat taste is dominant. Slight spicey, citrusy notes. Powerful phenol (band aid) taste on the end. For a very light bodied beer, it maintains a suprising creaminess. The low-level carbonation works for this one. While I could easily see people drinking many of these on a hot summer day, personally, the phenol taste throws me off. It’s just a bit too much.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-hazy golden pale colored brew with an average white head that slowly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of golden grain malt, some light orange zest and coriander, a hint of white pepper and some clove. Taste is light bodied, some carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt with wheat, a hint of coriander and some yeast. Finish is light, crisp, some light fruit and a touch of coriander that quickly disappears.

Bottle... poured a beautiful, hazy, golden/yellow with a creamy, white head. Spiced esters and wheat malts on the nose. Quite sessionable with an easy drinking flavor profile. Light fruits and spiced characters. Baked-like wheat malts and an earthy touch of herbs and weed-like notes.
