Clear, very dark, burnt orange lager with a small, creamy, off-white head. Prune, molasses and medium sherry nose. Tastes like a doppel bock brewed with brett. Acidic, acetic... you name it... sour! Of course, theres still a lot of dark malt, dark fruit and vinous notes underneath all the pungency. Full-bodied, chewy and astringent with modest carbonation. Tart finish. Good thing I’m into sour! tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

It had been so long that I had not seen it, although I had not given it a thought until I saw it there... "Whatever happened to Brasal," I thought? Whatever indeed. They went out of business quite a while ago, I gather, and the bottle that I purchased was sadly not in very good shape. Undaunted, I returned and purchased the remaining bottles in search of one that would not have turned with age. Most showed extreme signs of oxidation but for a six-pack (?) that somehow had survived refrigerated all these years. Still, some bottles fared better than others. If this brewer somehow is revived and returns to brewing this beer, I highly recommend it. If they were able to duplicate it at it’s height, it would do well today. Sadly this was a brewer ahead of their time before the micro revolution really made people interested in trying different beers. I went through eleven bottles that I found forgotten in this store as I have fond memories of this beer and was excited to add it to my ratings. I would not recommend buying it unless it is re-issued. Most showed extreme signs of aging. I base my rating upon the best of the eleven bottles I picked up in offer of a happy remembrance of a once fine brewer that did things just a bit differently from the mainstream... Malty sweet aroma with notes of bread-like yeast. Cloudy brown/amber body with lasting, dense, though thin, off-white head. Big and malty flavour with nice balancing bitterness and a slight tartness pulling at the edges of the tongue. Body is medium light and mouthfeel somewhat still. Bottle. They never provided much in variety but were a variety in themselves. Pours a cloudy brown body and a almond head. Malt Aroma. Somewhat bitter taste. PorterPounder (3147), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Flavor has an odd twang to it though and kind of dampens my enthusiasm for this. Kind of a odd carbonated feel in the aftertaste. Aurelius (2652), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Deep caramel color with small tan head. Disappointingly thin palate -- which was tart and clingy, turning piney/brassy. This started well, but finished poorly.
