frankenkitty (1789), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jan 29, 2006 Served black with a nitro-creamy tan head that held steadfastly at half-an-inch wide. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, charcoal and roast malts, the flavor was chocolaty and smooth with burnt coffee in the finish. Very creamy. I have a soft spot for nitro stouts. Can’t explain it.

Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 23, 2006 I ordered the Winter Lager but the hot waitress gave me this. A beautiful looking beer, identical to a Guinness on tap. Definitely a nitrogen style stout. About an inch of frothy and thick tan head. Aroma is muted and you can’t really decifer anything in particular. Taste is, again, muted and mostly smoked and roasted. A minor hint of mocha. Palate is soft and watery. A little bitterness on the aftertaste. I’d say more of a dry stout than an oatmeal stout. drywall_man (197), Lake in the Hills, Illinois, USA Apr 21, 2005 This one was very dark brown/red, almost opaque. As cornfield reports, kind of an anise smell with a licorice taste. There was the minerally roasted malt coming through. A most curious stout. Cornfield (4263), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2005 Updated: Jul 18, 2005This looked pretty decent in the glass, a deep brown, near black color with a creamy tan head that laced the glass thickly as I drank. The aroma, tho’, was strange. Overridingly, it came across as anise, a strong licorice scent that reminded me more of ouzo than a stout. The drink was creamy enough, and it had solid roasted malt flavors with coffee and a bit of smokiness. But the finish, once more heavy on the anise. Strange.
