Cornfield (4263), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jan 17, 2005 Updated: Jul 18, 2005A dunkel, to me, is a style that’s waiting to become something. "Should I turn to the dark, perhaps become a bock? Or, maybe I should lighten up and be a Vienna?" That’s why a dunkel isn’t a fave style of mine... but it was to the brewmeister at Brass Restaurant, who insisted I try a couple of ’em. Actually, not bad. It pours a clear darker brown tone with a decent tan head. The aroma, caramel, sweet but sensible, backed up by some good roasted malts. There’s both caramel and toffee in the initial taste, but they pause, back up, and allow some smokey coffee flavoring to come through. It all finishes fairly cleanly with but a parting farewell from the mild hops. S’okay.
