motelpogo (4124), Plzen, Czech Republic Dec 24, 2003 pretty decent for a french triple. quite pale and cloudy and excitable. brown sugar aroma with a trace of metho. some biere de garde style grape and blue cheese flavours with plenty of alcohol presence, just pretty rough around the edges
Bart (1455), Vosselaar, Belgium Nov 29, 2008 Amber coloured beer with very little carbonation and a small off-white head. Special sweet malty aroma with some light caramel and madeira touches. Medium to full palate. Finish is sweet bitter, wharming strong alcoholic malty hints with a longer bitter sweet ending. A rather strange and special tripel. omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 22, 2007 Updated: Dec 25, 2007Bottled. Clear pale amber. Aroma of fruit and raspberries. Sweet and near full bodied with caramelly chewy malt and salty finish. A solid, quite bold tripel. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Sep 2, 2007 Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a little white head. Aroma of malt and hints of caramel. Malty sweet flavour nearly like a bock, ends up little bitter and dry. wunderbier (1261), Finland Aug 27, 2007 The beer pours a clear, tarnished medium-bronze colour with a rather average-sized, foamy white head that’s quite short lived. The aroma is surprisingly potent and decidedly un-tripel-ish in many ways. True, there are some bright, spicy elements like blood orange and pepper, a slight alcohol twang and a hits of wheat malt...but. I think Jukkabro is on the money by conjuring the image of a barley wine. There are copious amounts of caramel, raisins, toasted bread, tawny port and molasses. Also, it’s very light to my nose, but I get some cherries and cheese rind. Strange, not bad, but strange. Very much like a Belgian take on a British barley wine. Very sweet at first taste, pressing into the territory of treacle tarts, with a hint of citric acidity. Still very chewy in the middle, lots of caramel, and leaves with some alcohol and a hint of dark, dried fruit. The mouthfeel is rather odd, starting out quite creamy and chewy, but the finish washes away with an unexpected quickness, almost watery. Carbonation wears off rather quickly, though it was never vigorous to begin with, and the density is above average. A strange creature, certainly, caught between being a being a barley wine and wanting to be a tripel, it lacks the necessary depth to be a good example of the former and finesse for the latter.
33cl bottle, Duvel tulip, bbe 10/08. Jukkabro (2463), Tampere, Finland Aug 20, 2007 Coppery colored, vanishing head. Let’s say, barley winish aroma with this spiciness, sweet raisins, caramel, mild licorice and slight alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also nice and rich with same BW-touch: raisins and mild spices, warming alcohol also with caramel and toffee. Aftertaste lasts with dryness, mild alcohol and raisins.
