Rastacouere (5201), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 15, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A very timid beer whose main quality is its cleanliness.
I like:
I must say I like it less than any other offering from these guys and this was fresh from the draught at Brouhaha. Excellent label to go with this audacious cultural marketing stunt.
I dislike:
The yeast strain is Belgian, but procures no character. Agressively filtered. Limited aromatic depth. Shy flavours of nuts, straight grain, caramel, vague fruits. All simplistic and short. Another rousse brick on an overcrowded wall.
Sammy (2959), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2008 Picked up in Trois Riviers. Pours a pale and foamy. Aroma of yeast and malt and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel, approachable. Medium plus mouthfeel. MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 2, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Basic caramelized cereals surround meek leafy hops in this well-executed but inconsequential Belgian-style Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the translucent regal with an orangey sheen.
-The body is rather round for the beer’s size. Its residual sugars may outweigh both the hops’ and the yeast’s contribution.
-The earthy hop finish is quite subtle, but it’s pretty much where the hops are the most useful in this beer.
-It may be a tad too sweet, but it remains a suitable introduction beer for flavor-fearing neophytes.
Bottle. HogTownHarry (3141), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 27, 2008 Bottle (341ml). Via trade with papat444. Clear refractive burnished copper pour with a small quick-diminish fizzy head. Sweet light roast caramel malt with perfume/floral notes and an interesting bit of peat or iron in there. Very generic "rousse" style, pungent dry floral bitterness balances characterless toasted malt, but there’s some iodine/hessian peatiness and even a hint of cocoa. Light body, not much carbonation, I would like a little more finish and astringency in this one - not a bad ale, but as Rastacouere says, a little timid.
