elihapa (407), Hawaii, USA Oct 6, 2008 Stout. Bottle, from Rahman in Montreal. Pours black with a small head. Aroma of roasts, light coffee, dark chocolate. Body is dry, and characterized by a watery roasted flavor. Just OK. DrDavid (473), Johnson, Vermont, USA Sep 19, 2008 (Bottle). Roasty malt aroma, notes of coffee. Nearly black in color, small brown head. Flavor has roastiness, coffee, nuts, and some pleasant bitterness, plus faint chocolate. Nice full mouthfeel, and a prolonged finish of dark chocolate and nuts. Good stuff. Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 27, 2008 Bottled. Poured medium-slightly darker brown with a healthy shorter cap of tan head. The aroma picked up semi-sweet chocolate surrounded by oaky notes and sweet, lightly-toasted oats.. strange blend, but it worked. The flavor had a strange complement of sharper cheddary notes and blue cheese funk over older coffee and caramel sweetness.. some cocoa on the finish with a dry, sour, grainy finish. Medium-bodied and interesting on the palate thanks to the cheese component.. can’t say it flowed too well, though. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 21, 2008 Strong roast, burnt coffee grounds and plenty of bittersweet dark chocolate in the nose along with an underlying fruitiness. Opaque black body is topped by a generous fine bubbled tan head that recedes rapidly to a thin but lasting cover with scant lace. Very roasty flavour at first is joined by sweet chocolate that gets cut short by surprising bitterness. Burnt character in the aftertaste. Medium body with very sharp carbonation that is a bit off-putting to me. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Rahman, Jun-08). robinvboyer (1071), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2008 very nice black pour, with some auburn highligths, and a good creamy beige head. Aroma is very roasty, lots of chocolate, brojown sugar, and brownies. Wow, the aroma is so nice. The flavour is so nice, lots of subtle bitterness, and a great malty, smokey, roasty chocolate flavours. Its like bitter brownies, with some smoke, and roasted malt, wow, this is an excellent stout, i’m really enjoying this!
