Poured clear coppery-orange with a short-lived cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up nutty notes, caramel, and wet hay with accents of cereal.. not much hoppage to note. The flavor found nutty and biscuit character at the core with hints of dark fruit and earthy bitterness around.. brighter and prickly as it warmed up, and it seemed like some combination of degraded hops and boozage.. toasty and sharp on the finish. Medium-bodied with creamy carbonation on the palate.. just a poor transition to the sharper stuff on the edges (the really didn’t do a lot of good).. not bad. islay (476), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 13, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Nutty, dry, slightly sharp aroma features Nutella, toast, carob, and caramel scents. Interesting smell. Pours a clear, dull copper to light auburn. Sparkling liquid. Large amount of fluffy, cream-colored head. Produces a smattering of lacing. Simple, sweet taste features caramel and brown sugar flavors. Dull aftertaste. Light body and watery; insubstantial. A bit lively on the palate. This is not my style of beer. bhensonb (4288), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2009 Thanks to guerde for this rarity - might be the only bottle in Cali. Pours a hazy darkish brown/amber with a creamy beige head. Rich aroma notes of darkish malt, chocolate and arguably treacle. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is very mixed - toffee, treacle, something in that vein. Nutty. Tasty. Finishes neither sweet nor dry, and there’s a slight tootsie roll rebound. ksurkin (393), Norfolk, Virginia, USA

Rich, somewhat dark brown with an orange-red hue. Small off-white head forms with spotty lacing.
Milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruit. Very nice malty smell overall.
Semi-sweet malt backbone of caramel, toffee, chocolate, dark fruit and molasses. A nice nut flavor helps cut the sweetness which turns slightly drying at the end.
Relatively low carbonation, medium smooth body, slight dry finish. Just a nice pub ale feel overall.
Both full flavored and easy drinking at the same time. One of the better English Brown Ales I have had.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice brown color with amber highlights. It has a nice white head that has decent retention and lacing. The aroma is wonderful! There are real nutty tones back with a soothing scent of maple. Yummy! The flavor is very smooth and warming. There are big nutty flavors in the forefront and almost a caramel backbone to it. Very delicious! This beer makes a great winter warmer! The mouthfeel is just a bit bigger than a normal brown and that fits in nicely here. I really like this beer.
