Allen (700), Wölflinswil, Switzerland Jul 3, 2007 A very dark brown beer with a beautiful head and a nice lacing. Very interesting aroma of caramel, milk, dark chocolate and paper. The taste is of black chocolate with some enjoyable sour elements. This beer has a decent amount of bitterness. Some notes of paper, toast, butter and banana in the taste too. An interesting brew. Medium body. I Iike this beer quite a lot despite its papery elements. The finish is rather nice and decently bitter. Quack-Duck (1973), Bodensee, Germany Jun 23, 2007 bottle, bought at the brewery. Black colour, beautiful creamy head. Flavours of malt, roasted malt, caramel, coffee and bitter chocolate. Quite fruity, especially in the finish and aftertaste. MoritzF (4019), Ruhrpott, Germany Apr 9, 2007 (bottle, with thanks to quack-duck!) Very dark brown, almost black colour with a fluffy beige foamy head. Slightly sweet and sourish fusty nose of roasted malt with notes of caramel and dark chocolate. Sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly roasted malt-character with notes of chocolate and caramel; moderately dry and bitter finish with chocolate and a very subtle sourish fruitiness. Definitely not moreish. The label states that it is obergärig (top-fermented). Additional info from the homepage of the brewery says it is fermented with Kölsch-yeasts. My first “dark Kölsch” doesn´t work for me. Gazza (720), Worcester, Worcestershire, England Apr 18, 2006 Bottle from Geneve station shop. Near black, sweetish, caramelly toffee aroma and taste. Thin body yet interesting with a sweetish toffee-malt finish and hints of bitterness. fiulijn (6010), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Sep 17, 2004 Brown color; huge head. Another one with a bad fermentation, some paper aroma, quite high sourness.
